If you are a science fiction {especially Star Trek} fan - Then you must watch this new series.

Its like a Star Trek series that occasionally laughs at itself - And it works! You can take the story line
seriously and with the humor thrown in have a few good laughs at the same timie.

I suspect the show was designed as a countermeasure for another new series Star Trek: Discovery. One will delegitimize the other.

It's interesting that CBS' logo is the all seeing eye.

Hulu, has a streaming service you pay for and if has a 30 day free trial - But I don't know if it is available in Australia
    - Also Hulu's cheaper service has advertisement like commercial TV.

You'll have to check from your location to see if you can get it.

Here's the Hulu ad for the 30 day free trial available in the US.

    I saw the first episode.
The wife talked me into it.
    I liked it.
Then I went to watch the second episode, she forgot to record it...!
    Go figure....

Not much real drama imo ...this was a comedy from the get go with Seth McFarland in it...it is basically a tv version of Galaxy Quest. The humor and jokes are far too often to take this on any other level. Not bad if one looks at it from that angle.

Episode two was a bit more serious - One scene where Humans end up in an alien zoo reminds me of an
old Twilight Zone episode from way back when.

I'm new to sci-fi comedy and up until now was mainly interested in very serious sci-fi preferably with
philosophical implications. - But I was starting to get burnt out on such a serious diet and thought I
would search for lighter stuff - The Orville just happened to pop-up and being new probably would have
    watched it anyway.

If you start looking for and watching the comedy sci-fi genre you find it varies from child like and silly
to campy and adult. 'People of Earth' which I reviewed here:
People of Earth, Alien abduction TV comedy/conspiracy series 2016/17
is also an often adult comedy on the so called alien abduction phenomena and at first I thought it stupid
    - But I gave it some more chance and began to like it - its sometimes hilarious - still others may still find it
silly - but often makes some serious points about the psychology of people who think they were abducted.

I've been meaning to watch that alien abduction ' comedy....I'll ck it out when I get a chance.
Good comedy will have something to say about social issues etc, but make no mistake the Orville is a comedy. McFarland loves to skewer things.

I was a Family Guy fan for a couple of years but eventually I burned out on Seth MacFarlane. His humor is always very negative and demeaning. I watched this show for about 15 minutes and then lost interest. It was like Family Guy in space.

Has anyone seen episode three yet? - It was bad, not funny and hardly worth serious attention ether.

To sum up the first three episodes.

    1. Sci-fi adult comedy - Often funny.

    2. More serious sci-fi, not bad as a Star Trek wanna-be.

    3. Crap - A full episode exploring the sexual identity problems of an alien race that is all male.
    - It wasn't funny - and was seriously bad.

One more really bad episode like the last one and it should be canceled.

-Until the writers and producers make up their minds as to whether they want basically a comedy with some serious elements - Or serious sci-fi drama with some comedy - They will produce lame content.

And to produce a sci-fi series that is both truly funny and serious in content - That was what
I was hoping for - But like time travel, it is easier said then done.

Just saw episode 4 - And I rate it AAA+++

After the last episode I thought the show was going to get lost almost before it began - But in this latest episode
we have an excellent and yes, serious, sci-fi classic worthy of anything ever produced on Stat Trek, with some
humor mixed in to make it even more interesting.

    Episode 5 had Charlize Theron.

I'd watch anything with Charlize Theron in it.

And it tackles time travel and causality.

Orville has been decent so far. I thought the episode "Pria" was a standout.

I've seen every episode so far. You would think the Humor would ruin a Star Trek-like Show, It only improves the formula. In fact. I would say. The Orville is probably as good as the original ST, So far anyway. It's got great special effects. Likable characters. Depth. And when put up next to ST discovery, It makes discovery look pale in comparison.

It's the best show Seth Mcfarlan has ever done. Hands down. I believe people will remember the Orville long after they have forgotten ST Discovery.

When the acronym for a show is STD it lowers expectations.
