Hi guys, sorry if this has already been done, but I thought it might be fun [for the adults] to have a place where we could post our frustrations, and poke a little gentle fun at just how this world that we all live in is changing. Yes it is inexorably changing at such a pace that if you're anything like me at all ... then you just can't keep up with the changing landscape of social acceptability ... AKA.. Political Correctness!
As I said... this thread is for ADULTS ONLY ... and not designed to cause offence to anyone or group that you insist on being identified as! ... However, if you are easily offended and have clicked on to this thread by accident.... then you had better close your eyes and piss off sharpish!

I'll kick off the thread with one of my many present bugbears .. and that is this...

need I say more?

Cheers.

Guessing my American friends may not have seen Fawlty Towers but I suggest you guys watch it.

Episode below was "taken off air" until John Cleese made a fuss, to which it was reinstated with "guidence" due to some racial slurs that were said earlier in the episode by a character know as the "Major". Explanation of the joke can be found here: Fawlty Towers isn't racist. Major Gowen is

Another one. Come Fly With Me. Matt Lucas and David Williams haven't stood by their creations and bowed to the PC madness therefore it has been totally removed from British TV and streaming services.

Even quite difficult to find footage on YouTube.

Yes Captain, this is exactly the intended spirit of the thread! ... And of course i agree whole heartedly that this type of twaddle is going beyond the pale as regards to the elite-minority's strength in demanding that we are too intellectually-feeble to decide for ourselves what is actually acceptable ... or just funny.
.... there is great evidence that this latest P C-drive is working wonderfully for them too lately, with many comics and actors publicly feigning regret and begging for forgiveness from the powerful 'woke-public' .. and asking for their past 'offenses' such as 'black-face-work' to be destroyed and expunged from their cv's. ... it's imo unbelievably pathetic and here is another example of what seems to be occurring everyday now....

On the flip side of that, what about Darth Vader?...James Earl James's voice was used for what is clearly a white character...

And what about all of the other 'white-facceruppers' such as my old favourite Eddie Murphy? ... are they to grovel and be publicly shamed and expunged from history? ... What about Michael Jackson? ... there's no clearer case of 'white-up' than him is there? ... and also, i'd like to ask you if you could put me straight on whether it will be alright for my daughter-in-law to carry on with her UV-Tanning machine? ... and will I get into bother if I stay out in the sun too long this summer?? ...

Yeah read about this one. Absolutely crazy.

Here are three black voice actors who voice some white characters. I am sure there will be outrage about this as well at some point, not.

Yep! ... and I was just wondering "what ethnicity would be a safe option" to voice these characters? ....

I love your term "bugbear"! I had never heard it until now.

My girlfriend recently signed us up for the Netflix free sample because we both love Mindhunter.

What I find curious about the show is that the part of Holden Ford, who was straight, is being played by an openly gay actor. The part of Wendy Carr, who was gay, is being played by an actress who claims to be straight in real life, though the public truly does not know for sure with Anna Torv.

At at a time when gay people are demanding their own holidays and statues, at least here in the US, one can only wonder how much longer it will be before such sexually-oriented gender bending becomes an issue of offense.

Fawlty Towers aired on PBS on Saturday Nights for a long time with other British sitcoms like Are You Being Served? Many Americans are familiar with it.

Jimmy Kimmel gets celebrities to read mean tweets about themselves and respond. It is loaded with political incorrectness and one of the funnies segments I have ever watched.

Here's just one example...

Hi Sheltie, hope you're doing fine and keeping away from the dreaded-corona mate.

...Yes I actually binge-watched the two Mindhunter series on Netflix the other week [loved the Ed Kemper characterisation] .. enjoyed the programme and am sad to read that it has not been commissioned for a third series.
Hadn't a clue about the sexualities of any of the cast ... but then it would never make a difference as to my perception of the programme anyway.. because 'I simply do not care' ... it's solely for entertainment and in no way should it have a bearing on casting and should only be judged on capability, i'm sure you agree.
... But yes, unfortunately I tend to agree that this increasingly alienated neurotic world that we live in is taking us to places that are absolutely crazy! ... Are they going to outlaw or destroy all of the old Rock Hudson movies in which he invariably bedded a vast array of beauties? ... Is the magnificent portrayal of Quentin Crisp by the [unpopularly-straight] John Hurt to be considered an affront to common decency? ... why is it ok for Jeri Ryan to play 7of9 as a lesbian when she is a married mother of two children? etc ... I could go on and on, but I suspect that we're of the same mindset already, so won't bother. lol :p

Cheers Buddy.

Surprised but happy to hear this, as personally I think a lot of the older British stuff is must watch TV! Knew you guys have BBC America but would not have thought any of the channels would show older programs like this.

Guessing you've seen Mr. Bean but how about things like Dads Army, Bottom and Red Dwarf?

Talking about Bottom, here is one they censored a long time ago. As someone points out in the comments: "Richie originally says "Thieving bastard gypos!" but it was changed to "yobbos" when it came out on DVD. Look carefully when you hear "yobbos" and you'll notice the edit."

Hi Michael, hope you are well my friend. ... I have heard of Jimmy Kimmel, but am not really familiar with his show. [we get Graham Norton and Jonathan Ross over here... all very tame] ... but if that sample is anything to go by, then it's a pity because it looks good. ... by the way, I agree with the Benedict Cumberbatch assessment. lol :p

I'm shocked and saddened to hear that Mindhunter was not renewed for a 3rd season! :crying: I normally stay away from the genre of dark and ghastly shows and movies but Mindhunter was the exception. It never actually showed any of the violent acts taking place and instead focused intensely on the psychological aspect. The acting and writing was thoughtful and intelligent. I heard the ratings were fairly good. Maybe it was just too expensive with the large cast, the detailed scenes filmed on location, and the period costumes and sets. Netflix probably has decided to pay more attention to its budget with the increasing competition from the likes of Disney and CBS on demand. What a shame...

I always liked Shelley. I guess it's because when I first saw the show about 20 years ago I was in a somewhat confused, rudderless phase of my life just like the main character.

Yeah, I loved Shelley ... R.I.P Hywel Bennett. .. Was a very competent actor with one of those marvellous voices, and along with the 'Tales Of The Unexpected' had the greatest theme-tune on TV.
