The Walking Dead - Season 9

I had to write about this because it's blowing my mind - we're into the 9th season (episode 5) of The Walking Dead, and they're at the top of their game. I can't believe that I can say that. By the 9th season, any show that's lasted that long is slowly and torturously circling the drain...the writers are obviously bored out of their minds after painting themselves into a variety of inescapable corners...the actors look tired and are phoning in their performances...the directors aren't even trying to compose cinematic scenes anymore...it's just sad and depressing and if you can bear to keep watching at all, you regret it every time.

Somehow, The Walking Dead has managed to escape this lifeless, shambling fate that's faced nearly every other TV show that has lasted more than about 5 seasons.

I don't know how they're doing it. Apparently there's a Walking Dead comic book series - maybe they're getting all this fresh material from those folks. But whatever it is, I hope they keep it up, because I've been watching this show for years and it just suddenly got more awesome than ever before.

Hot damn.

Yes, there is a comic book series. I haven't read them but, when I had questions about Michonne's arrival. Someone filled me in on the details from the comic book series.

This latest episode was epic. It looks like we are getting a whole new set of characters for the upcoming episodes.

I feel the same way about Game of Thrones. I wish this wasn't their last season. :(

It was so badass that at the end of this episode, how they showed us a flash forward to the next episodes with the gun-slinging little ass-kicker =D This was such a great episode - first rate story-telling from start to finish. It was awesome to see some of my all-time favorite characters on the show again, in such powerful, poignant vignettes. [damn it's hard to write about this stuff without giving away any real spoilers, lol]

The way people have talked about this show from the beginning, convinced me that I needed to wait until it was all finished so I could binge-watch it as it deserves to be watched. It's so awful to have to wait for the next episode of a really great show - I can't do it anymore. So it's easy for me to say that I'm glad it'll be finished soon, because I'm dying to start, and finally see what all the fuss is about =)

I saw Rick's departure as a good jumping-off point. I think the series reached it peak around season 3 and has had a gradual decline since then. The last season was abysmal. They are said to have changed tack for this season by reorganizing their writing staff, but it is unfortunately too late and I don't care any more. It seemed to be mainly the story of Rick, and with him gone, there isn't really any reason to care about the show any longer.

This show started out wonderfully in 2010, for a mature audience, then turned into a PC theme park.

The same themes over and over again, became frustrating and predictable. The climatic dealing with Negan was the most anticlimatic moment in all of television history. It was all about how to keep pc fans happy. It cheapened the actors and the writting of a once epic show.

The excessive emphasis and demand for romantic relationships, and over diversification turned the show into a narrative for social themes. When the show first came out, it was very clear what it was about. Somewhere, it turned into a feel good for later joined fans, ensuring the social justice/pc groups were not only appeased, but wrote it for them. It's shameful and sad.
