Do you think it may have an extraterrestrial connection given the alignment with Orion's belt or strictly something tied to astrology with religious flavours?...

The Orion alignment suggests it was crop related but why a mile long?
Have walked in the area and given the locals talk like they are being charged by the word, if ET did once try to communicate, they probably gave up and buzzed off

The circles are 240 meters/787 feet wide and 550 meters/1804 feet apart. I thought those number could translate to light years, but it didn't match the stars in Orion's belt. Some believe the pyramids on the Giza Plateau represent the Cygnus or Taurus constellations. Aldebaran in the Taurus Constellation is 65 light years away & Deneb in the Cygnus Constellation is 1,4oo light years away.

Due to being mainly made of supergiants, Orion is thought to look today much as it did 5000 years ago.
The main body of Orion will hardly shift at all, because it’s mainly made of supergiant stars, like Bellatrix and Rigel, that are hundreds of light years away and thus don't appear to move in the sky.
What Will the Constellations Look Like in 50,000 Years?

I know many think Stonehenge was used to determine planting and harvesting period
Every year on summer solstice, the Sun rises at a point that is farther north than on any other day of the year. At the ruins of Stonehenge in England, this solstice sunrise appears on the horizon in direct alignment with the massive heel stone. This is the most outstanding feature of the monument and there is little doubt that the builders of Stonehenge used it to mark this special day as the beginning of each year. By counting the number of days between these annual alignments, they could determine the length of the year.

Knowing the basic calender via Stonehenge could help to determine planting and harvesting period

With this, the time for the equinoxes can be determined as well. This could serve as a practical, basic calendar to mark holidays and seasonal festivals and to ensure the timely planting and harvesting of crops. This is essential for the Druids as knowing the right time to plant and harvest would affect the crop yield which was vital to the Druids' survival since agriculture is one of their major sources of food.

Just a guess, but maybe it was a mile long to accommodate the amount of people who were expected to visit or frequent the place?...
