Did you watch it?...How was it?...

I felt slightly nervous about last week's episode of S&L, so I never finished it. But the new episode is out, and it seems headed in the right direction (based on viewers responses I probably shouldn't be listening to), so I will watch both episodes back to back tonight.

Jon-El catches sight of his doppelganger Jonathan; Jon-El lunges at him and Jordan tries to intervene, but Jon-El appears to be stronger and faster than him.

That was my concern when the show went on the short hiatus, so I haven't watched these 2 new episodes yet...After your post I think ill go ahead and watch them now too lol...Picard really soured my viewing of television series a bit, to invest time to watch a show only for it to head into the deep end rapidly...I hope S&L doesn't follow the same path...I heard the CW was making budget cuts and S&L was an expensive show for them, more so than the other DC shows they have and had until recently...

I haven't been watching Picard as I am not a fan of any current or future Star Trek. But I got a kick out of this excerpt from a review of the most recent episode. (Translated from French, btw.)

"Question of the moment: is it possible to do even worse? And every week, the production of Star Trek Picard responds with a big smile: YES... My arm is swollen from self-mutilation by pinching myself. I couldn't believe the sad spectacle of this episode as there are so many absurd things this week."

Yes, it's safer to allow a series to first run it's course. But there's a human impulse to be optimistic. :dry8:

I used to do that all the time, when I first started watching Stargate SG-1 three seasons had been made...Same with Battlestar Galactica...There is a short list of tv series that I watched weekly as they were aired, such as Stargate Atlantis and Farscape...

But there's a human impulse to be optimistic. :dry8:
Yeah there is that, and I've always carried a far bit of optimism in regards to movies...Sometimes I have thought a movie was a real stinker and avoid watching it for years, only to find out years later that it was a pretty good movie after all...lol

Lately though we've had some real stinkers, some look great in trailers but huge fails...That and the woke messaging injected in movies these days wears my movie optimism a little thin...Kind of like how Freon was depleting the ozone, it can come back lol...Once we get a few great movies like we once had available frequently before covid...There's been a few good movies come out lately though which renews some of my optimism, like Old Henry and Spiderman...Superman & Lois has been a good series, season one was great, I'll watch the new episodes back to back tomorrow evening...I'm off work on Friday so I don't have to get up way early the next morning lol...

Well, I watched them both. The first is not bad at all in conjunction with the second, which itself is very good.
Turning point in the series at the end of the new episode.

Clark reveals that he is Superman to Lana. (She eventually found out in Smallville, and in the animated series, knew all along.)

Bad news: The next episode will not air until the end of the month.

Smallville was a good series, at least judging by the few episodes I watched...I've only seen a handful of Smallville episodes...

I finally watched both of them back to back, overall it was good, a few hiccups and a couple wtf moments lol, but good...I liked the reveal to Lana, long overdue, but also superman floated there a bit too long, I'm thinking to myself, okay Clark, time to come down, lol...

Bizarro's kids were a bit bizarre too, especially the emo-goth look, I don't understand the need for writers these days to write the villains as anti-heroes...They sure did paint Bizarro in a different light, not that I minded, I just noticed and found it somewhat bizarre, no pun intended...

I understand your general point, but regarding Bizarro specifically, S&L's Bizarro is a straight up hero, not even an anti-hero. He operated as a hero on his home world, though he had some family problems. And his purpose in coming to to this world was heroic, to stop Ally. He did make a mistake in using excessive force and killing a couple of bystanders, but that blemish shouldn't nullify his overall hero status.

I guess you can still object that they made him into a hero, rather than as the villain he is often classified as being. To that I would just say that he has been depicted in a variety of ways, and often when he does bad, it is only because he is so dumb. So yeah, sometime he's depicted as fully aligned with villains. But other times, like in Superman TAS, he's just a dimwit who screws things up.

As I see it, the truly unique character of this Bizarro is that that he is fully as intelligent as "our" Superman. Traditional Bizarro has poor language skills. By contrast, this Bizarro merely speaks in reverse relative to our ears. And that extends to their entire world. As I remember it, in the 60s and 70s comics, the Bizarro world was pretty much a goofball world. But aside from the cubic shape, the S&L Bizarro world is just a variant of how things are in this world.

I don't think I can recall another fully intelligent Bizarro.

I plan on checking out Pennyworth in the very near future.
Well, it took a while, but I just watched the first episode of Pennyworth. Very impressive so far. High production values; gorgeous atmosphere filmed on location in the UK. It's part conspiracy thriller, part drama, with decent character development. I was taken aback by how young the lead actor looks, but he was 27 or 28 when the first season was shot.

An excellent addition to the Batman franchise, though obviously the connection is purely anticipatory. But Alfred as well as Thomas Wayne obviously had lives before Bruce was born, so here they are.

I've finished three episodes so far. So far so good.
It's set in 1960s Britain, but not our 1960s Britain. It's an alternate history with many peculiar elements, including televised executions and a mob boss analogue of Jack the Ripper.

I realized something the other day. Season 3 is slated to begin later this year on HBO Max instead of EPIX. But there's no telling how long the series could potentially run. The main character, Alfred, is fairly young, so they could come up an extensive storyline before crashing into the Batman time period. If they want, they could extend it to the birth of Bruce Wayne, and even beyond, past the death of his parents!

I might do a three episode binge of Superman & Lois tonight. That's how far behind I am. I've been nervous about the storyline, but from what I hear, it's starting to move in a pretty good direction.

Yeah I'm also that far behind, I've heard some bits about the story which hasn't impulsed me to watch anymore yet...

The biggest takeaway:
Why does she need a suit?...She doesn't even belong on the show and it's fairly obvious since they have to force feed sub-stories to keep her relevant...Might as well give Lois a suit, and Lana too, ugh...

Are you referring to Natalie? I don't actually read comics, but apparently, she's an incarnation Steel's niece, Natasha Irons. That character was a super-hero who wore a suit that gave her super-strength, flight, and weapons. Since she appeared back in 1994, she wasn't invented for this show.Natasha1.jpg Natasha2.jpg

Article from last year on the comic book source for Natalie's identity.
Superman and Lois finale brings back a major DC hero for Season 2

(Hyperbolic title though. More like minor hero.)

I dont usually read DC comics so I didn't know she was a thing in the comic books...Still though, I think it distracts from Superman a bit, we have Irons and Superboy already...

With the Arrowverse closed or closing down, maybe CW is planning a Superverse as a replacement.
Also, the other son might eventually develop powers.

I've decide to restart tonight, but with just one episode.
