YF-23 was a beautiful plane, probably far ahead of its time, but anybody can say anything he wants, this photo clearly shows why this plane lost competition to YF-22. Look at a number of missiles YF-23's can carry, just x4, x2 short range and x2 long range. Who in his right mind would spend dozens of millions of dollars for platform that can only put x4 bullets into magazine. Its hard to grasp what designers of this plane were thinking about.

Seemingly uncoated, full size Black Bird inverted on Radar Cross-Section test stand.
Planes were placed inverted on the pylon in order to hide a pylon from incoming radar waves, as well, in real life bottom of the plane is what ground radars would see, while top of the plane would stay hidden from ground radars.

If I remember the story right the Godless Commie Russkies knew about Area 51 from the very beginning and had it under observation. The people working there knew that an had a schedule of when various satellites would pass overhead so they could conceal whatever they were working on including this.
I think it was during Have Blue the development of the F-117 that they figured out the ground beneath the sand held the day's heat and created a perfect infrared image of the aircraft being tested

In Tonpa AFB US air force held a whole squadron of various Migs. Squadron was used to practice dogfights etc. They knew when Soviet satellites were coming and would move all the Migs into hangars.
