Not to mention Gene removes almost all posts on the Paracast forum when a reader brings this up. I posted about the money once around 2009 and he wrote back to me complaining that I was trying to slander him. I think we are getting into fraud territory, he's using textbook email solicitation techniques used by nonprofits, only there is ZERO transparency as where the money is going. My guess it's his pocket.

Gene has been running this scam for many, many years now as this article proves beyond any shadow of a doubt. He has numerous email lists and has floated one sob story after another in an attempt to prey upon people's better natures. Should you ever give the guy any money, you will be hit up for a loan, badgered, and ultimately threatened if you try to clue his hapless forum participants in on his scheme. There is absolutely no reason to believe anything he says about his situation or anything else for that matter. I have to wonder why so many people continue to contribute not only money in the way of subscriptions, but their time in the way of interviews and forum postings. They are lending their own names and reputations to this proven huckster. There ought to be a law.

The situation for me is some limited experience from talking with Gene and Chris on Skype as well as emails from them and Biedny and browsing all the various sorts of accusations against Gene. I've never lived with him so I can't say for certain what exactly is and isn't BS.

However from what I've been able to tell, from Gene's perspective he's been in situations where he's had financial problems and felt that reaching out for financial help from the community wasn't such a big sin. That's about all I've been able to tell.

I've seen no evidence of criminal fraud or scamming or lying about any paranormal experiences he's had in order to sell books on fabricated stories. In fact his views on Meier, Knell, etc. are well known and the show itself is also one that doesn't simply take everything at face value. IMO it's been a credit to the field.

At the same time, that doesn't mean I don't understand how people can be put-off about the way he's sought donations in the past. Hopefully that will change for the better in the future. In the meantime I haven't got the impressing from him I've ever been lied to outright or attempted to have been scammed by him in any way.

Thanks for the response. I'm not going to try to brow beat you into agreeing, I don't think it proves anything, but it seems you can at least understand why. It may be different in the fact that Meier, Sean David Morton, etc are fabricated and he's not selling a UFO cult - but to their credit (or discredit), most of those people are batshit INSANE. I think a lot of what annoys people is stuff like this as well:

People honestly thought they were paying for something related to helping the field with this guy, something that went to research or something productive. Also, there's countless screenshots of posts on The Paracast forum that were taken before Gene deleted them and banned the person, for saying they donated in the past and feel concerned about what's going on and thought they were helping with research or for support in the field.

Then it ends up turning out they're paying for a guy to live in a $1200 gated apartment community who eats out every night because he won't cook and leases a late model car.

I mean you tell me which is more egregious? I think I can believe the Meier people are batshit insane, a little more than Gene Steinberg is making a reasonable effort to cut his costs or do something to get out of his situation, to be honest.

What his income and costs are.

He should be able to live on what he earns.

Whats really happening here is he's figured out that telling the same sob story about eviction, no money, almost (but never actually) on the street will yield some money.

Its all a lie. And that is Fraud.

this all looks like a major smear campaign. I actually find it hard to believe the forum permits it because it has rules when you sign up about defamation.

There's a key part of the rules of this forum that you appear to conveniently have left out of that statement "of other members"...Gene is a public figure, not a member of this forum, I'm sure you understand that there's a plateau people tend to put public figures on, professional behavior is expected of them, they get people's trust and respect, businesses are the same way, when a business is discovered to rip off, swindle, and deceive its customers, what do you think is going to happen?...

I actually find it hard to believe you have chosen to ignore all the obvious evidence offered directly to you and now even sitting right in your lap because of your recent decision with Gene...Its interesting that decision was made the same day after coming here, I'm not going to ponder into the whys and reasons, but for you to reduce all of the factual evidence posted here and on other websites to a smear campaign is very shortsighted to say the least since you have refused to even look at the facts, there's a word for that, ignorance...
