That's just because of the storm that came though. Things will rebound again soon. When a big Nor'easter comes through it funnels down cold air from the north because of the way the storm circulates.

In the DC area the "bomb cyclone" took off shingles and other home pieces (neighbor lost a downspout).

Numerous trees dropped into the roads along with street lights and traffic light poles. Saw signal light set in Germantown twisted 45°.

Power was out in a number of places and a number of signal lights were off even in places that had power.

Weird seeing what was effectively a hurricane with no precipitation (we had gusts to 70 mph.)

Schools and the Fed Gov were closed so traffic was ok.

Same thing happened here. I ended up with 10ish inches but the wind gusts were up to 70mph. I lost power yesterday and it just switched back on an hour or ao ago. Crazy storm indeed. Nor'easters or "bomb cyclones" are no joke. When they bomb out the wind field is larger than any hurricane.

Well I see in the forecast there's a prediction 10 days from now of an ice storm lasting almost 3 days...

We shall see, yesterday I bought another propane heater just in case this happens...

I see a similar thing in the weather models. Shows blocking and that will stall the storm and keep it around. Same thing with this current storm, blocking happened and it just stalled on the 50/50 benchmark and continued to bomb and circulate for hours. But if you want my honest opinion, as somebody who has studied weather extensivly don't take stock in blocking patterns, they are very rare. Yesterday was the first block in 10 or so years. Don't take stock in 10 day out weather models either UNLESS every major model is is some concencus.

My eye is on the 7th and 8th right now. Another Nor'easter may be on the table.

Rain the last two days here in LA. I haven't seen any news about disastrous mudslides in Santa Barbara.

Wasn't the area of Santa Barbara evacuated?....

Areas in the burnt regions were under mandatory evacuation orders for the current rain storm. The people killed in the major mudslide in SB were under evacuation orders. I imagine if people ignore the orders it releases the city of liability because they were officially warned.

East coast weather: Two feet of snow and rain expected | Daily Mail Online
  • Winter storm system Quinn is threatening to dump more than 2ft of snow on the east coast Wednesday
  • Quinn started brewing in the west late last week and has been making its way across the country
  • It is expected to dump up to a foot of snow on parts of New York and up to two feet on upper New England
  • In some coastal towns gusts of wind could get up to 50mph, but flooding won't be as severe as the last storm
  • Comes after storm Riley pummeled the east coast last week, killing 9 and leaving 2million without power

Was relatively nice all day today, spent about 9 hours outside at work, around 60F all day with a slight breeze, now that's sharply dropped and we have 18-24 inches of snow coming throughout tomorrow and Thursday...

Kind of chilly today but sunny with a high of 34F.

Keeping my eye on what could be a very potent Nor'Easter Monday night into Wednesday for the entire northeast and mid atlantic. Current guidance is pointing to a sub 965mb low off the coast of Delaware.. CB it MIGHT be your storm. Good news is though is that this storm could "break the block" and filter spring in afterwords.
