My niece in SE Wisconsin got walloped with bad storms and has been without power for days so she and her husband went out and got a nice Briggs & Stratton portable generator, she's been texting back and forth to me about hooking it up.
Actually
listening to what I say does not seem to be on the menu. Like many interactions I've had at Home Depot on this very topic (hundreds and hundreds of them) she seems to want my approval for whatever they want to do more than useful advice. My point is there is only
one way to hook these up to a panel,
the right way, the
NEC approved way that avoids physical danger and risk of equipment damage or even fire. When I did mine a few years ago it as under a Town permit and signed off on by an electrical inspector. God forbid there ever is any problem with that my home insurance will not have an issue, it's 100% legit and up to Code.
Naaaaah. Why bother when you can hire some generic handyman called 'Wolf' who will whip you up a nice suicide plug to use on the dryer outlet. In that situation they always seem to want to argue the point despite not having the faintest idea of what's involved or how it works. FAFO I say. Once again I am thankful for that thousand mile distance between us
