I enjoyed the book, but he got a bit to airy fairy in places for my liking, in places it felt like he was making some sense and then would seem to take a giant leap of faith on something.
Two years ago I was camped in the middle of Tasmania some where. There was a little communally powered area with a light and a gas BBQ, I was sitting by a campfire telling two friends in a ballpark kind of way about the Holographic universe idea. I wasn't paying much attention but there was a fellow of Asian appearance finalizing his cooking and clean up in the camp kitchen. When he walked past he stopped and said, in a very American accent that he was Dr...someone and his primary area of study was this exact topic. And the whole cloud reality idea. He went on to talk for about 10 mins and we just sat there awestruck at the things he told us. It was like Elvis returning from the grave. He also said that he has written a couple of Ted talks on the subject for another researcher. But we were several days away from proper power and any internet and with my crappy memory I could never find the Ted talks he referred to. But even if you are not a fan if the theory, what a co-incidence to be overheard by that particular fellow in the middle of the Tasmanian wilderness.

Very interesting ....I wonder who that scientist was....?
The idea of a 'holographic universe' is not really a new idea even to Talbot. There have been a handful of physicists who have mentioned that concept before but used different terminology probably.
The Dancing Wu Li Masters and The Tao of Physics are two books that explored such 'unified field' theories where all matter and energy is 'one'. And these came out before Talbot's book.
Dancing Wu Li Masters: An Overview of the New Physics by Gary Zukav
The Tao of Physics: An Exploration of the Parallels between Modern Physics and Eastern Mysticism by Fritjof Capra

BTW....these unified Quantum or Holographic theories can explain even paranormal events and are explored in all 3 books mentioned above. And Dr Vallee also uses some of these same ideas in his books when looking at the unusual aspects of the ufo enigma. Could it be that what we call strange ufo events, ESP in all it's forms, and even ghosts....might be some aspect of a holographic or Quantum reality event that we simply don't understand with our current science and technology?
Perhaps all of these things.....that we call the paranormal and supernatural and even religious events stem from some aspect of the nature of reality (as it interacts with human consciousness) that we simply don't currently understand .
Food for thought......

Oh no, you have ruined my mental image of you. In my minds eye you were a wise old Asian Kung Fu master with a long white beard and blind living in a monastery ...(or was that Master Po?)
Now my vision is of an old rocker long grey hair and with a doobie in hand :)

Sorry, back on topic now :)
Steely Dan, now those were good times :)

Well...funny enough I look a lot like Becker on the right in that pic except my hair is very short...I do have a similar beard and I wear glasses........
I have had that same online name for over 15 years so I never changed it.

...and since this is the ' what do you believe' thread...I'll say that I believe it's the greatest prog album ever which more or less single handedly started the whole prog rock genre in 1969.
There were certainly other early prog bands around then but that album was so creative and dynamic that it influenced many later prog bands to come.

I'm a big fan of Genesis and ELP but damn, there were so many good ones back then. Cressida, Camel, Spring, Alquin, Curved Air; too many to count really. I was born in '78 so I had to discover all of them on my own.

I'm also a fan of Genesis , ELP, Camel, Curved Air, .....Cressida and Spring are pretty obscure.....not many know of them...I have those on cd...not LP, which is rare and expensive. I have quite a bit of prog on cd and some on original vinyl as well.
I started buying vinyl in 1966 and 45's as well....discovered prog in 1969.....
Never heard of 'Alquin'....I'll look them up. If you like prog rock you should ck out Progressive Rock Archives online.....
Progressive rock music discography & reviews they have a good resource and listings of where to find things
ps...if there is something rare you are looking for let me know....I have a lot of obscure prog on cd.

Thanks bro. I think prog had more hardcore fans overseas than in North America, it seems like that is where most of the CD's today come from.
