What got you into Aliens

Honestly, UFOs and aliens are the element of the paranormal that I have become most skeptical of... for whatever reasons I find it easier to accept the idea of say ghosts. I think all of the phony claims just burned me out. The more you pay attention to some of this stuff, the more it unravels.

But, UFOs and aliens are also very intriguing.

I think I got interested because it was a big topic when I was a kid in the 1970s. I watched In Search Of... and Project UFO faithfully. Bigfoot totally fascinated me, and the Bermuda Triangle. I grew up in Ohio, near Wright Patt - in fact, because my dad was in the military I went to Wright Patt for my medical care when I was young. Eventually hearing the stories that there was a recovered saucer at Wright Patt, well, it used to drive me crazy wondering if it were true.

Another thing that made UFOs seem more real to me, a family friend gave me a bunch of UFO magazines in 1975 or so. It turned out that one of them had a photo in it that the father of one of my neighborhood friends had submitted - the dad of a girl who lives across the street. And he had taken the photo in our neighborhood. I can't even remember the picture now, it was just lights in the sky, I feel like maybe one was on a triangular looking object. Nothing earth shaking, not even a great picture probably, but to the kid I was it made UFOs seem real.

I go through cycles of interest in the paranormal and about 10 years ago I got really into podcasts and found myself reading a lot again about UFOs. It actually wound up making me less of a believer rather than more. But like I say it's still interesting stuff. I can certainly imagine or hope there is life somewhere else out there, and I find the thought it may have visited Earth in the past especially intriguing. Of course it has to be said if we're talking aliens / ETH, I feel like aliens could be to us the way we may be to some insects, just a different order of life, incomprehensible.

OK sorry for the long-winded post! It's interesting stuff but I have found a lot of claims and stories ultimately disappointing.

I have never had any personal experiences with sightings or the like; if I had I think I would be much more interested.
my final conclusion is that they are interdimensional

You do realize that if you show a copy, it will be considered tampered with and that people will demand to see the original?

IMO, photos and videos are no longer accepted as proof. I used to think they would be acceptable until I saw that video of the eagle snatching a toddler from a playground. It looked so real to me. Even the shadows were perfect. It turned out to be some kind of school project.

L0L, yea I love that video

However, Ande's Eagles have carried off very large game, are known to pull large game off cliff's and they have been filmed going after full sized adults as well.

PS: I wonder if this is like programming us for when they have robotic birds that look like eagles that could actually do this?

Seriously? You need examples now huh? 160 suspicious deaths of witnesses in the JFK assassination isn't convincing enough for you and so now you want me to do your homework as well huh?

No that's not convincing......I didn't see any real suspicious deaths in that case.

Good question.......I suppose that means all the alleged ET artifacts being shown as such are just hoaxes.

I don't think that's a good question at all, but I do think what you've just brought up is worthy of questioning.

I follow what you're implying and the idea is worth following. It would be better if you, and not I, put to words what you are implying so that I'm not putting my spin on what you are trying to tell us. Which BTW, once again I think it's a potentially important observation.

I'm not a gadget junkie like most nowadays.

My phone plugs into the wall at home and my camera is a 30 year old Kodak that uses film and flashcubes.

But, I thank you for the update on the above. :)

Nothing wrong with tried and true.

In the US they are doing away with land line service (POTS).

My daughter is a camera junkie but has always used digital.

A 14 MP (megapixel) digital camera with a 64 GB (GB= 1024*1024*1024) SD card can store about 10,000 pictures.

The math says the card should be able to store a lot more 14 MP pictures which are about 30 MB (MB = 1024*1024) in size in raw mode but go figure. A 64 GB SD card only has about 59.5 GB of useful storage.

Anyway that is why people use digital cameras.

A 24 MP picture is about 53 MB.

JPEG format is a lot smaller than raw.

Good question.......I suppose that means all the alleged ET artifacts being shown as such are just hoaxes.

Just asking a question. What cases are there of "real" alien artifacts?

Perhaps we can bat these around in a thread.

When someone claims people are getting killed for their goodies this raises two questions.
1. What are some examples of people being killed for their goodies?
2. Were their goodies worth killing for?

Do we have a "killed for their goodies" thread?

Its not implying anything but an observation.......its just that if the owners of ET "artifacts" aren't murdered based on your assumption the "artifacts" aren't really ET and are therefore hoaxes.

I also don't see many suspicious deaths here or in regards to the JFK assassinations.

Let's assume this "killed for goodies" story has game.

If you compile a list of "killed for goodies" people and the available information on their artifacts - it should give you the general characteristics of a genuine alien artifact.

What got me into aliens? Aliens. I might as well come clean. I do so with trepidation. I posted this on Skeptiko forum ("eveshi") and as myself on PscienceQuest forum. The former booted me, the latter now ignores me (for the most part).

I was abducted. More than once. many times.

There. It is out.

I seem to have always been interested, with no great opinion one way or another for most of my life. I grew up with all the UFO sightings people reported back then and stuff. It was interesting but not life altering. I was deep into Science Fiction. It just all seemed plausible: life here, for sure life out there. One day but not necessarily now.

But the older I've gotten - while I would never close the possibility down - I do see that lifting off planet in a real viable way has more to do with consciousness than physical technology per se. If there are aliens among us - which there may very well be - we haven't the capacity to recognize them I don't think. Yet, who knows?

Their reasoning for doing things will be very different from our current earth based reasoning, I think. It's engrossing to consider all the possibilities - though I have never been impressed or stimulated by the aliens people come up with as 'real'. Grimly unimaginative imo. More fascinating are the alien cultures that science fiction writers came up with like Cordwainer Smith's 'The Instrumentality of Man' series, 'the strange, soaring stories, with their hints of even further unglimpsed depths and wonders'. Then of course Frank Herbert's 'Dune'. I've never understood how people's imaginations can be so co-opted by what I experience as very pedestrian ideas of alien visitation some have come up with. If there are other civilizations capable of traversing the galaxies they must be remarkable indeed. I think. Beyond our current ken.

Just saw this - we were posting at the same time. :wink8: Is there a thread on this site for abductions, I wonder.

EDIT: Yep just found this - Alien-UFOs Personal Experiences

Brian, post over there, maybe start a thread. Would love to discuss it. :smile8:

I used to believe that

As a youngster I thought ET. As I grew older i thought our science will explain everything.Having seen something myself that I can't explain I now am more confused than ever and haven't got a clue about what's going on.The deeper I dig the more soil gets in my eyes and impairs my view.

Am interested. Is there a thread where you could go into more detail? :)
