Would Self-awareness imply Consciousness?

Do you think self-awareness necessarily implies there is also a consciousness that exists within?...Is there much more to a consciousness than just being aware of itself?...Is achieving self-awareness the earmark of an 'internal' consciousness?...

I want to say no, Because we can do many things to make a machine seem self-aware, we can even program them with "Simulated emotional response"

Sadly, It's in the crux of the definition.

self-a·ware·ness
/ˈˌself əˈwernəs/
noun
  1. conscious knowledge of one's own character, feelings, motives, and desires.
Now with that said, One doesn't have to agree with the current understanding. Words and definitions change over time.

I am strongly in the camp that a complicated enough program simulating consciousness is basically equal to consciousness.

People want to put Consciousness up on a pedestal and say it's unachievable. If a machine was designed to have a Biased algorithm which allowed it to make choices on things that benefited its own needs or ramifications. This could be considered Consciousness.

While Self awareness shares the same definition of consciousness. The definition of consciousness is really very loosely defined.

con·scious·ness
/ˈkän(t)SHəsnəs/noun
  1. the state of being awake and aware of one's surroundings.
"she failed to regain consciousness and died two days later"
synonyms: awareness, wakefulness, alertness, responsiveness, sentience
    "she failed to regain consciousness"
    • the awareness or perception of something by a person.
      plural noun: consciousnesses
"her acute consciousness of Mike's presence"
synonyms: awareness of, knowledge of the existence of, alertness to, sensitivity to, the realization of, cognizance of, mindfulness of, perception of, apprehension of, recognition of
"her acute consciousness of Luke's presence"
    • the fact of awareness by the mind of itself and the world.
"consciousness emerges from the operations of the brain,

Machines can be aware of their surroundings. machines can be aware that other people are present.

machines and Humans still have a Gap between them, Human consciousness and consciousness are not the same things definitively.

Yes, the commonly accepted descriptions used to define self-awareness should be reconsidered because we are approaching a future in which we may utilize self-aware machines...Does that necessarily imply those machines have a consciousness...To me consciousness implies an existence after the body dies, could a self-aware machine exist if it's machine body or cpu was destroyed?...

It depends on how you rationalize it, If you look at time for what it is, Once something has existed, It in some ways exists forever. Think about the afterlife and the descriptions of how an afterlife is described, The people commonly depicted are most usually not nude, They are clothed. So why did this clothing manifest in an afterlife?

I think What we consider to be the soul or essence of someone, Is more intricate than what we consider it to be. If you love an animal enough, Do you believe those worldly connections you had with the animal will allow you to see this being on the other side? Some say yes. What I am getting at is, What a soul is, What energy is, What an afterlife is, People have different views on how things will play out in the end. My view is, If you care about something or someone enough, Then it gives that person or thing Relevance. People who make these machines, People who try to develop consciousness, They put in a lot of effort and sometimes care into what they are doing.

In some ways, What I am saying is, Yes, We May as creatures with souls, Have the power to create souls. As odd as this sounds, Look at nature, Parents create new souls all the time.

So, To give something that kind of relevance, It depends on what it means to you brother.

When an animal recognises it's own reflection then it has become self aware.

The rest get spooked or attempt to fight it.
