Today I picked up my youngest (and last) from his first week at kindergarten and my oldest from her first day of college classes. Thinking about the ebb and flow of life as it carries us across time has me feeling sentimental. Today is my birthday and I'm feeling a little old in my soul.
I joined AU in 2003, I think. I do remember my first post was a memory from my childhood that I never shared with anyone let alone thousands of people. I recall being nervous to read the replies. I was literally shaking. Yet, my post...this little treasure of memory kept inside for so long...was received warmly. AU quickly became my safe place to share all the weird and wonderful things that went on inside my head. Things I could share nowhere else. Long nights spent sharing, talking, arguing and pondering quickly turned to years. Too quickly so it seems. My safe place is now gone but I took from it a few good friends and many good memories. For that, I am immensely grateful.
But this dedication isn't for them...at least not yet...no this is for the countless people who came and went over the years during my time at AU. People, whose lives were as anonymous to me as mine was to them, who took a few moments to read my thoughts, listen to my rants, entertain my flights of fantasy and, on occasion, just soothe my loneliness. I can't recall their forum names, nor their avatars or life stories but I can't forget that the many years spent in their company meant something to me. So, though they will never see this and will never know...this is my thank you to them...this is my last goodbye to Alien-UFOs.com
