William Wordsworth (1770 – 1850) I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud
Wordsworth was a great nature poet and the co-founder of the Romantic Movement. He was born I the Lake District – one of the most beautiful parts of England, studied at Cambridge, and was inspired by the French Revolution. Wordsworth revolted against the poetry of his time, which he thought was cold and artificial, and wanted to return to the emotion, imagination and natural language of the medieval and Elizabethan poets. In one of his poems he says that only through the beauty of nature can man find the ultimate meaning in life and reach a state of inner peace and harmony.
