My brother. Who has changed a lot over the years, Was once, Hell on wheels. He was an uncontrollable monster. When he was 17 years old he discovered that the oil used in transformers.
It was a very expensive kind of Oil, and it could be sold at a high price, So, He got really high, Climbed a light pole with a baseball bat and knocked one of those transformers down. Realizing how much oil was in one of those transformers, He gathered a group of three friends, one of which had a flatbed truck, Together they knocked down about ten transformers, But by this time the police had found them, With no other options to get away, My brother took one of the transformers from the back of the now speeding flatbed truck and threw it at a police car that was in pursuit of them. Needless to say, When they did capture him, He served Twenty-two years in the penitentiary. Having his time served, And, prison having actually changed him, They let him out on probation. See he still had something like three years to serve if he was going to serve his time completely out. But, He took the probation, Which included counseling, drug court, And That he understood, That he was now a felon. He tried to acclimate to suburban life, For a while he did, We had barbecues, And For the first time ever, I got to know the person who was my brother, That was something I had never really got to do.
Later, Unable to get proper employment, He developed lung cancer, With no way to pay hospital bills, He did the only thing he could think to do, "If he violated his probation, He would go back to prison", and while incarcerated, They system would have to see to it that he got proper medical care. He did just that, I borrowed his Father in-laws Hand Gun, "Just to have in the truck with him, There was no ill intent with it" HE bought as a six-pack of Bud light and rolled up a joint and parked his Truck, "Of which was uninsured and unlicensed" under a four-way stoplight, He sat there smoking his joint and drinking his bud light while waiting for the police to arrest him.
They did so, Originally, He was to just serve his final three years in prison, He would have been released November 23'rd of this year. however, They recently indited him, As a persistent Felony offender, And give him an additional 20 years. My brother, Has lung cancer, He, probably won't ever see freedom again, If I had known that Barbecue I had with him years ago would have been our last,
Hindsight is 20/20...
I know it's easy to say, Well, He shouldn't have done the things he did, And I know, It's easy to see, He was guilty of a crime. But, He is fifty now, And he is still serving time for a crime he committed when he was seventeen. Yes, there are stipulations, Yes there are rules. yet, He never harmed a single person. There was no violence, only theft, and Probation violation. He has spent most of his life incarcerated. At this juncture, Anyone could say, What's your point? My point is simple, I miss my brother. He's had a Rough hard life, I miss all those times I never got to spend with him, And at this late stage in our lives, I'm realizing, We will never get to have those times.
The point is Family. It's the most important thing a person could ever have.
