I remember the other threads on this....what did the Aussie telescope find?

It wasn't exactly clear that they found anything new.

I think its a rehash. They have dropped it from the Newsfeed.

"Combining observations from a host of telescopes, scientists have determined that `Oumuamua is most likely a cometary fragment that has lost much of its surface water because it was bombarded by cosmic rays on its long journey through interstellar space."

They wanted to get some more high ratings off of it by mentioning "alien space craft".......a cometary fragment isn't as exciting to some people.

Where did you get this info? I doubt they can see what it looks like as depicted here.. or joke?

They don't know what it looks except for the albedo change - which gives them rough dimensions.

The albedo change isn't even so they assume an irregular shape with a 10 to 1 ratio.

But the scientists are quoted as saying the shape is "complex".

So we know that it is about 10:1 length to width and that is about it.

Its still possible it was an alien craft, possibly some relic if not a probe...

It is not known whether it was a comet fragment or not...

No its not......its just what they think is most likely.

Unless we can get a close up of it or land on it that's the best we'd be able to do.

sorry i'm confused:

is this supposed to be a photo of it?

Nope.

All "pictures" of it are artists renderings.

ALL of them.

The originals were all labeled "Artist's Concept".

All pictures without the label "Artist's Concept" have been cropped and usually resized.

what is this photo supposed to be of?

Collector_Cruiser.png

I chased down the image a while back because it has the correct proportions and a complex shape and somebody used it for the Oumuamua story. It is about as likely as any of the others.

It is a Collector Ship from Mass Effect 2.
