I read a book many years ago, I can't remember the title.
But the rough story was a group of UNI students were playing Dungeons and Dragons. Anyway, long Story short they spiced it up by playing in caves in the woods behind the UNI,
One of the characters was call Pardu the holy man.
In the end the uni student went crazy, and became the character 24x7
But it was a hell of a trip reading because it jumped between the game and reality.
In the game Pardu was exploring caverns looking for something, cant remember now. But he met a King and if I remember correctly killed him.
Then jump to reality, and his friends went looking for him, and were walking through the underground subways and storm water in real life. They met a crazy old homeless man who thought he was a King.
So Pardu had met the crazy old man, and his delusion fitted with his schizophrenia.
Anyway the book ends with his friends finally catching the guy at his house with his mum. He was outside.
His friends think he is OK, but when they meet him, he talks to them in character as Pardu.
He has gone completely mad.
It made me think, I hope if when I am old, if my lot is to be one that loses his mind. I hope it is not dimensia, I would prefer to just go into some D and D world, oblivious to reality, and live my days out as a D&D character.
Preferably not a Faerie though
Maybe a knight
