It’s no secret that Legends of Tomorrow, while still fun because it doesn’t take itself too seriously, had some major plot problems in its debut season. But for the second season,Legends is moving full steam ahead in a different, more controlled direction. The series has put to rest the Time Masters and Vandal Savage and is bringing out their own Arrowverse version of the Legion of Doom.

Since villains can’t have all the fun, the Justice Society of America will be a major story arc and serves to add new faces to the Legends team. Even though the JSA will be prominent, the entire season does not take place with them in the 1940s. With the Time Masters out of the picture, Rip and his crew will take on a time cop role (fighting time pirates at other rapscallions), which is a stark change to what fans saw in the first season.

The pacing and dynamics of season 1 never quite came together the way The Flash or Arrow did as their first seasons progressed, and viewers weren’t the only folks to notice. During press interviews at San Diego Comic-Con, CBR reports that Legends executive producers Marc Guggenheim and Phil Klemmer acknowledged their push to create the series sacrificed substance for speed.
