The boys over at Astonishing Legends have put out another gem.
I'm sure almost everybody is familiar with the sensational Alien Autopsy special that first aired on Fox in 1995. The film that was broadcast has been both debunked and defended. However, the line presently being put forward by the producers Ray Santilli and Gary Shoefield is that they had "restored" the damaged footage by filming a simulated autopsy on a fabricated alien, based upon what Santilli said he saw in 1992, and then adding in a few frames of the original film that had not degraded. So, while what was aired was technically fake for the most part, it is based on reality and incorporates some actual footage of an autopsy of an actual extraterrestrial being.
Now to the present podcast episode:
Enter tonight's guest, magician and media producer Spyros Melaris. Spyros has a convincing story of his own, that he and his friend, sculptor and Special Effects artist John Humphreys created the film and everything seen in it – that there is no authentic autopsy film. Whatever you may decide after hearing part one of our interview with Spyros, one thing is sure: the Alien Autopsy film captured the imagination of the world and might be one of the greatest hoaxes of all time.
Even if you never bought into the notion that the alien autopsy was legit, I think you'll be impressed with the degree of care Spyros and Humphreys applied in producing the model and the film, as well as the craftiness Spyros exercised to fool both experts and the general audience.
