'There's a good chance I get murdered tonight': Terrified Amazon Echo users reveal Alexa has been emitting 'bone chilling' laughs at random and is ignoring their commands

Recent reports from owners of Amazon Alexa devices are being called 'bone chillingly creepy.'

Some users say their Alexa-enabled gadgets start laughing totally unprompted.

One user reportedly tried to turn the lights off in their home but Alexa repeatedly turned the lights back on, eventually uttering an 'evil laugh,' according to BuzzFeed.

Another Echo Dot owner said they told Alexa to turn off their alarm in the morning and she responded by letting out a 'witch-like' laugh.

Alexa is programmed in many voice-activated devices with a preset laugh, which can be prompted by asking: 'Alexa, how do you laugh?'

But so far, it's unclear why Alexa is laughing even when users don't ask her to.

Amazon has yet to respond to inquiries requesting more information about the error, BuzzFeed said.

For now, more and more users say they're sleeping with one eye open next to their Alexa-enabled devices.

These are gang stalking tactics coming from an electronic device in the home. The shape of Alexa reminds me of Steve Jobs being involved in Project CARMA. They supposedly found alien technology on the moon the size of a soda can that he was allowed to study to determine ways it could be watered-down and used commercially. It would project clear images into the users mind and was activated by passing your hand over it.

Well...

Does Alexa normally laugh?

Natural language interface is all fine and good. But I have some questions about Alexa and Siri.

If they can control other devices they obviously have wireless interfaces.

This would make them a potential hacking target.

I'm wondering how many of these incidents are the result of someone "punking" the victim.

The article said the device has preprogrammed laughs including a sinister one.

That doesn't seem particularly necessary.

Further, the lack of an activation control means it is free-running and may respond at will.

Just not clear on what input stimuli would cause it to laugh.

Alexa is claimed to have an AI...

Would need more technical details to know what is going on here but the users may be creating their own problems.

It can be activated by saying Alexa or Amazon. An example they gave was a man on a TV commercial said Alexa and he ordered something. Smart phones are always passively listening and I imagine the same is true with these devices.

I understand that there are 4 or 5 activation phrases.

However, it would appear that it is able to self-activate, or the user is doing or saying something that is recognized as an activation phrase.

2spooky4me AIs?

The most likely 1st thought is they have malicious code in them...

The second most likely thought (since this is an alien/ufo/mysteries forum) it's aliens!...:tongue8:

I am with Casual on this one, I call prank. I am pretty sure Alexa has a SDK that you can use to develop your own stuff. So it would not be rocket science I suspect to inject a bit of code, or as CB said use the wireless to have a little fun at someone else's expense.

I have Cortana she is my digital agent and doesn't give me any trouble. Not yet anyways. She is not as good as Siri but she does get the job done and I like that.
