Fandoms

Do you have any special fandoms? I realize this is a 'younger person's' term but, hell, fantasy keeps us young at heart, does it not?

I am unashamed to admit that I am a 44(5) year old Star Wars geek and have been since 1977 when I seen
A New Hope
on the silver screen at the ripe old age of 5 yrs old. It sparked a love for the stars that has never abated. It was this scene right here...with Luke looking out toward the galaxy beyond the confines of his home...searching the horizon with a nameless longing...that connected with something profound inside of my young mind. I myself have never stopped searching. It brought me to AU...it brought me here. I reckon it will be with me when I reach my final destination.

So, yes, the Star Wars fandom has a special place in my heart. maxresdefault.jpg

I remember seeing Star Wars for the first time. I came out of that theater feeling like I was cheated out of life because I was stuck on this mudball and knowing that out there in the vastness was someone with the technology to make this a reality. The movie made me feel that our leaders, our business leaders, and our wealthy were all imbeciles and fools and I've grown to hate them all more with each passing day because they cannot dream the dream.

Have to say Star Wars for me as well. Remember as a kid renting it constantly on VHS from the local rental store. Think I rented the orignal three (NH, ESB ROTJ) each month for about a year until eventually my parents bought them for me!

I've always liked Star Trek, although I've out grown the original series and never watch those anymore, I do still watch random episodes of Star Trek Voyager and Deep Space Nine and randomly watch any of the Star Trek movies occasionally...

Never got into Star Trek myself. Although I have watched the newer films and really enjoyed them.

I've had some renewed interest in Star Wars now that Disney is putting out New movies...The Rogue One movie was very good imo...:D

The Star Wars movies have effective millions of people in a positive way. It's probably part of an incremental disclosure agenda. Some believe episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation & Stargate SG-1 were taken from actual events.

I think there's a few aspects of Stargate the movie that were reflections of past events...

I seen ANH as often as my parents would let me. A few years after the film, when I had learned to read well enough, I obtained the novelization of the movie. By the age of 10, when the film was released to VHS, I knew it by heart. In fact, I could close my eyes at night and literally play the entire movie in my mind. And this was something that I would often do to shut out the sounds of a troubled home. When Christmas and birthdays rolled around, I didn't want baby dolls and barbie dolls. I wanted SW action figures. My mom would just shake her head and wonder WTH was wrong with her little girl. I gave up trying to answer that question long ago. I decided it was best to just embrace my eccentricity. Its much more fun that way!

Ahhh I remember being 44....I think?
For me, I have always had a dark streak. I love the Vampire culture. If it wasn't for the fact that i am 55, with grey hair and a grey goatee, I would surely be a goth. Pretty hard to have the dark mysterious Vamp look, if your kinda the polar opposite in appearance and about 35 years to old. :)
But I still write poetry, and a lot of it is still pretty dark.
So for me, give me a dark vampire movie any day...or night

Am myself a fan of Anne Rice and favor the dark, somber music of Libera me, Domine. They say age is just a number...in which case, I am 8 going on 800 or so it feels. Do share some of your poetry sometime. Frost is my favorite.

Listening to Libera me, Domine now, it really takes you away if you close your eyes...
I can almost see them
