Shooting from the hip here - but Paulides was a cop who either quit or had to resign, lost his pension, over sports memorabilia fraud. Police officers are human but having taken an oath I think the stink of a crime committed lingers longer on them. We all make mistakes.

But he humps his law enforcement background, stopping short of saying why it ended and conveys a lot through pregnant implication when he speaks about missing people. Not really arguing with what he is saying - there are a lot of people that go missing but when you factor in the #s of people, the size and nature of these enormous Parks themselves it doesn't sound particularly paranormal to me. People do a lot of weird inexplicable s**t and he's humping the most useful angle that sells books.

The accounts of little kids who have traveled unlikely distances and who speak of hairy men - well that all sounds very interesting and to my ear, more plausible than fey people or the like. For the other 99.9999999999% of missing 411 it's human nature at work.
 
Some people want to disappear from society, for whatever reason...

My opinion is that his books sell because he doesn't offer any of his thoughts. So he can imply that a missing person case is a big mystery by leaving out some pertinent details and everyone can make up their own minds about what it is, it fits anyone's picture of reality in relation to paranormal. Like faeries, aliens, big foot etc.

And him being an ex cop does not recommend him as an investigator.
 
There is one amusing aspect to Paulides’ videos. He has commented that other people are now producing missing persons videos. He seems to have his nose out of joint now that he has some competition. I have not seen any of these videos but Paulides has implied that these people are copycats and have stolen some of the information coming directly from his videos.

He should have known that someone would come along and try to reproduce what he has done previously. He needs to step up his game if he wants to stay on top, so to speak.

He made it like it was a mystery but the things that witnesses said were different from what he claimed. Two of us in that audience knew the details of the case but he was trying to turn it into another case for his book, but it wasn't. If he did that for one case he has done it for others.

You're conclusion is logical. Yet — Paulides' has so many entertaining stories, I thought I'd post one up. And well — we weren't there so who knows? Maybe there was some weirdness that went along with the case ( I dunno ).
 
I watched the most recent Missing 411 movie, The UFO Connection. Its free to watch on Youtube with ads. This one includes one really good contact case that I haven't heard anywhere else which resembles the Travis Walton story. A fellow named Carl Higdon went elk hunting in Wyoming in 1974. He fired at an elk, and the bullet bounced off of an invisible "force field" surrounding the elk. Carl was approached by an alien who called himself "Ozo". Ozo spoke to the hunter without moving his lips, I would assume by telepathic means. He asked Carl if he wanted something to eat, and offered him some "pills". Carl ate one of the pills, and found himself inside a craft with several of the elk. Carl saw what appeared to be planet Earth through a window of the craft. Ozo then told him that he was not "suitable" and would be returned to the area near where he was found.

Carl's wife and a deputy sheriff had been looking for him, and found him on the side of a hill. Carl was disoriented and mumbling "they took my elk." He was taken to the hospital for tests, which were all found normal except that the lung scarring Carl had from a previous bout of TB had disappeared. Carl said he believed that the aliens didn't find him "suitable" because he had a vasectomy, meaning he was infertile.

All I can say is, I don't think I'm going to be applying to our elk tag drawing anymore!

Is that the one where his truck was found in a muddy field, or something, with no tire tracks? I think there are a few different cases with hunters out in the boonies that share many details.
 
From hearing a few random podcasts over the years Paulides claims that some of the very small children have described being taken and sometimes returned by Sasquatch. One of the children was found in a place a small child couldn't possibly get to.

Check out this screen shot from my PC just now. I remembered Paulides had to resign as a police officer and when I searched for it and used AI Search Assist look what it came up with.

Yeah, many times I have searched an answer to a question and where I posted the exact same question years ago on a forum often comes up!
 
I think Paulides is onto something that is genuinely paranormal, or at the very least hasn't been investigated terribly well. Thing is, like many in Ufology he apparently now does this for a living and so he has to keep the product coming. Meaning, he has to get the most mileage out of all his source material and so has to resort to sensationalism when needed. I doubt that he has outright fabricated or lied about anything in his Missing 411 project, but he has bills to pay and so that is going to influence how he presents things and the conclusions he draws or seems to draw.

I'm not that charitable. I looked at his background some years ago, and saw nothing to make me think I should believe anything he says. Apparently, some of his woo woo cases were actually solved (people found alive, etc.) long before he wrote about them. Yikes. Then there was his website. He was involved in the Melba Ketchum Bigfoot Shitshow! The one where the physical evidence was gathered up and DNA tested, and found to be part angels or some claptrap. Oy!

Paulides' work inspired a Youtuber I really like, Nick from The Missing Enigma. He does very solid work, and has been getting better. He's established enough now to be able to get copies of police reports, interviews with family members, and things like that. He's not much of a Paulides fan these days.
