Mystery surrounds the location and purpose of a SEVEN-MILE long tunnel under Coventry city centre. It follows the discovery of three old photographs showing men at work inside the structure nearly 50 years ago.
The caption of one of the pictures simply states: “Kinnear Moodie Ltd employees working on a seven mile tunnel under Coventry city centre. 17th March 1970.” Two men are named in the other photos as Charlie Rodgers from Arranmore and James McGee from Falcarragh.

The work can’t have been to culvert the River Sherbourne through the city centre because that happened in the 1960s, and the famous sewer scenes in the Italian Job had already been filmed two years earlier.

It also appears way too small for either cars or trains.

There is a reference on Google to a man overseeing the Sherbourne Valley Foul Water Sewer Contract between 1969 and 1972, but that’s where the trail runs cold.
