I happen to watch part of Forrest Gump again the other night and listening to an older Howard Hughes interview with Calvin reminded me that Tom Hanks did a superb job with that Deep South accent and portrayal of simple honesty. Calvin's not an actor and it's hard to listen to the man, especially the secret police tape and not come away with exactly the same impression. I may be naive but it certainly sounds genuine to me. Much more so than Travis Walton for sure.

So, I picked up the latest iteration of his book. Normally I'd take flinty eyed look at Bud Hopkins hypnosis sessions but if the transcript from his session isn't in that book I'll track it down separately. I've listened to some of Barney Hill's sessions and they are disturbing - hypnosis definitely has it's place. So do EMF meters and so forth - people have let TV get into their heads making them think they're doing something they likely aren't.

So, here's the interview with Philip Mantle and a repeat of an earlier Calvin interview:
Edition 752 - Calvin Parker - A Tribute

Now, just to give equal time to the skeptical side of the coin I found Famous Alien Abduction in Pascagoula: Reinvestigating a Cold Case from 12 Volume 36 Issue 3 Skeptical Inquirer. It's attached here. I'll read it later but at a glance but see this attributed to Charlie getting lit up and carried away and freaking out Calvin sufficiently to concoct this story. I admit to bias here - that sounds like pure bullshit having just heard Calvin say that the first thing they did was to call the local Air Force base who deferred to the local police. He described in detail how the police behaved when they arrived and that they immediately conducted field sobriety tests on both of them. On that note, they didn't go off to a UFO group with a jar of piss, they called the authorities and submitted themselves voluntarily to what happened next.

I always thought this was a good case. In total honesty, as a young kid reading UFO Magazine or the supermarket rags right around the time this happened I saw a depiction of one of these creatures and it stayed with me until now - scared the bejeezus out of me then. I still wouldn't want to run into one of those pointy scary bastards out in the woods. Yikes ! At the time I remember being made fun of for being interested in UFOs, among a lot of other things. Things have certainly taken a Jump to the Left in 2023 haven't they?

I found the audio clip. Also read that Skeptical Enquirer article from about 2012. What nonsense. It seems to center around Charlie's drinking. There may be more to it but I read the man took a drink after this happened and wanted another when he got home to knock him out. Who can blame the man? The police hadn't noted a disconnected drunk and believe me, if there's one thing cops know ALL about is dealing with drunks.

I'll throw my two cents in. I have personally consumed more mind altering substances than most ten people you know and consumed oceans of alcoholic beverages. Been through all sorts of 'trips' what have you. Never, not once EVER have I or anyone I was with EVER experienced any sort of disconnect as described in that article. And brother, I've seen some real Gonzo episodes - just nothing that ever rose to that level. What a bunch of lightweights they must be over at the Skeptical Desk. In fact, I was sitting on a farm drinking beer smoking a joint with my friend when we witnessed the famed Hudson Valley UFO and even then I was able to discern the sound of engines after the initial shock wore off.

J. Allen Hynek had it right - these men are genuine about their terrifying experience - what happened no one can say for sure. Rather than dismiss it I see absolutely no harm in listening to someone like Calvin. I suspect Charlie had a bit less credibility but, as Spock once put it when asked about our reaction to disturbing situations "As with all living things, each according to his gifts." One thing is for certain - if you ran into that man on the street you wouldn't be saying you don't believe him, I suspect he's proselytized more than one doubter. Reminds me a little of Sgt.York in a way (was just reading about that)

Sheriff's department since 1973.

Partial transcript of conversation between Calvin and Charlie recorded by Jackson County Sheriff's Department

CALVIN: " I got to get home and get to bed or get some nerve pills or see the doctor or something. I can't stand it. I'm about to go half crazy."
CHARLES: " I tell you, when we're through, I'll get you something to settle you down so you can get some damn sleep."
CALVIN: " I can't sleep yet like it is. I'm just damn near crazy."
CHARLES: " Well, Calvin, when they brought you out-when they brought me out of that thing, goddamn it I like to never in hell got you straightened out.
"My damn arms, my arms, I remember they just froze up and I couldn't move. Just like I stepped on a damn rattlesnake.
"They didn't do me that way."
CALVIN: " I passed out. I expect I never passed out in my whole life."
CHARLES: " I've never seen nothing like that before in my life. You can't make people believe."
CALVIN: " I don't want to keep sitting here. I want to see a doctor."
CHARLES: " They better wake up and start believing ... they better start believing."
CALVIN:  "You see how that damn door come right up?"
CHARLES: " I don't know how it opened, son. I don't know."
CALVIN: " It just laid up and just like that those sons of b*tches -just like that they come out."
CHARLES: " I know. You can't believe it. You can't make people believe it."
CALVIN: " I paralysed right then. I couldn't move."
CHARLES: " They won't believe it. They gonna believe it one of these days. Might be too late. I knew all along they was people from other worlds up there. I knew all along. I never thought it would happen to me."
CALVIN: " You know yourself I don't drink.
CHARLES: " I know that, son. When I get to the house I'm gonna get me another drink, make me sleep. Look, what we sitting around for. I gotta go tell Blanche... what we waiting for?"
CALVIN (panicky): " I gotta go to the house. I'm getting sick. I gotta get out of here."
[Charlie leaves the room]
CALVIN: " It's hard to believe . . . Oh God, it's awful... I know there's a God up there..."

I think Pascagoula is one of the most genuine cases ever. 1973 was a real watershed year for UFO events. The Falkville, Alabama case happened only six days later.

I listened to that audio file yesterday with a pair of headphones.

Poor audio quality, impenetrable accents and my less than stellar hearing meant I only got maybe a third of what was said, but that's enough. I bought Calvin's book so I can get the timeline straight about exactly what transpired when they reported it. The first half of the file is the police speaking with Charlie. He spoke about blue lights, gave some description of the creatures that may or may not match with what we later came to understand, described his call to Keesler AFB. There was some questioning about his drinking - he sounded perfectly lucid and honestly, I probably would've had a couple of stiff shots myself after something like that. If that was all to the recording we wouldn't care quite so much about it.

It's evident in the second half that Charlie and Calvin are speaking freely so that has to be the secret recording. It s as advertised - these guys had the snot scared out of them by something very much out of the ordinary, that's for sure. Disturbing.

I've often wondered if the creature chased by Jeff Greenhaw just a few days later was the same or very similar to those of Pascagoula.

Greenhaw photo compared to a person in a hazmat type suit:

Sorry for the huge image, couldn't find a way to resize it and still upload it. Some say that the Falkville alien is a person in a hazmat type suit. They look similar, but I don't think they are the same. The alien suit, if it is a suit, looks way too form fitting and doesn't seem to have distinctive gloves or shoes. The neck is really long, freakishly long for a human. I'm not sure the visor area of the helmet is actually see through, looks more like an indentation. In the smaller photo of the alien, it definitely has some kind of protrusion on top of the helmet. The Pascagoula aliens were described as having the same sort of protrusions coming out of the sides of their heads.

I forgot about that one, thanks. Yes it does sound similar but I dunno about this one Anonymous caller, goofy suit. This happened 350 miles north of Pascagoula less than a week after that incident. Sounds like follow on to what had been in the news at the time.

In my opinion .............

The tin foil monster in this one ran away at high speed. The ones that snatched up Charlie and Calvin glided very rapidly through the marsh.

You could very well be right, although Greenhaw may have thought the creature was running when it was actually gliding due to the darkness. I would say that is more likely given so few accounts of aliens running like people.

The 30+ year motorcycle owner in me sees an old bubble visor helmet. Anybody remember those? No idea if they even still make them, but in '73 there were common enough. That's what my brain instantly picks out of that poor photograph. Look at the shape of the intergalactic face shield.

I'm not sure what happened in Falkville, AL but it turns out that that's where my cousin went to school. I believed their mascot is the "Blue Devils".

New witness to 1973 alien abduction in Mississippi shares terrifying account of 'pincer'-clawed creatures dragging men onto UFO

A new witness to a bizarre 'alien abduction' in 1973 that is at the center of a new Netflix show has spoken out for the first time.

During a video interview, She recalled seeing five-foot tall aliens emerge from an oval-shaped UFO with flashing blue lights over over the Pascagoula River, scoop up the fisherman and carry them off into the night sky.

When the craft returned, she claimed the beings each man by the arm who were slumped over and unconscious.

Maria Blair has kept what she saw that October a secret for decades due to fears she would be ridiculed - but gave a video testimony in 2023 that has been shared with DailyMail.com.

While the case is decades old, it has been brought back to life in Netflix's top-ranking new docu-series 'Files Of The Unexplained,' sparking new interest into what may have happened on that night in the Mississippi marsh.

Mississippi resident Maria Blair claimed she saw a UFO on the night of October 11 and witnessed the beings load and unload to the two men onto the craft, she said in an October 2023 interview shared with DailyMail.com
