Saint Malachy Prophecy of the Popes

The alleged prophecy was first published in 1595 by a Benedictine named Arnold Wion in his Lignum Vitæ, a history of the Benedictine order. He attributed it to ST Malachy, the 12th‑century archbishop of Armagh
. He explained that the prophecy had not, to his knowledge, ever been printed before, but that many were eager to see it. Wion includes both the alleged original prophecy, consisting of short, cryptic Latin phrases, as well as an interpretation applying the statements to historical popes up to Urban VII (pope for thirteen days in 1590), the list is accurate from 1143 to 1590 when the list was discovered. after 1590 well its hit and miss. there are 112 names listed mostly as coded mottos listing every pope to doomsday. for example, the 1st pope on the list is "From a castle of the Tiber" pope celestine II was born in a castle overlooking the Tiber. ech motto fits allegedly the pope in question. to determine if its hoax or not i will take a look at the last popes on the list and see how they fit our popes.

"Light in the sky" Pope Leo XIII 1878-1903
those who follow the list remark of the comet on Leo's coat of arms.

However, the motto says LIGHT not a star or comet. others say it's a reference to the dawn of electricity this also does not fit. as the moto states the light is in the sky. My husband mentioned that the airship flap happened during his reign. take your pick. I will call this one a miss. as you have to Strech to make it work.

"Burning fire" Pope Pius X (1903 1914) Proponents of the prophecies have attempted to link this motto to Pius X by interpreting it as a reference to his zeal. He did not wish to be pope. only after intense prayer did he accept. he lived a life of poverty. and humility. a traditionalist He resisted change in the church going so far as to excommunicate reform minded modernist priest. In his time as pope Pius was a quiet man the only zeal he displayed is resisting change in the church.

"Religion destroyed" Benedict XV (1914- 1922) World War 1 was a horrible destructive war. many churches and priest were killed. although no destructive dogma was issued the link to the 1st word war is enough to call this a hit.

"Intrepid faith" Pius XI (1922-1939) proponents of the prophecies have attempted to link this motto to Pius XI by interpreting it as a reference to his faith and actions during his pontificate: in 1937, the Pope strongly condemned Nazism and Communism. he spent much of his papacy speaking out against Hitler and Mussolini, but he never excommunicated them. the persecutions of Catholics in Germany seemed to spark this split between the Pope and Hitler. Pius accused the Nazi Government of sowing "fundamental hostility to Christ and His Church" and noted on the horizon the "threatening storm clouds" of religious wars of extermination over Germany. his inaction gave Hitler the green light on the final solution. As for the motto if you find anything that links Pius to "intrepid faith" please comment.

I believe Pope John Paul I used this prophecy to foresee Pinky Tuscadero's death from the dreaded Malachy Crunch before his own untimely demise.
