This is interesting, I heard some people talking in town, this lady said she let her dog out late one night, it was very dark outside, the moon wasn't around, but there were three small clouds that were white and bright in the dark sky, like the moon was shining off them but she said she didn't see the moon anywhere...

If the Moon were near the horizon on the other side of a ridge, it could light the clouds up and she wouldn't see it, especially in dry atmospheric conditions which eliminates the Moon's halo. Too bad she didn't check its position with an app like Sky Map.

That's what I'd say as well.....I once had a dark yellowish sky with an odor of smoke and the wild fires were almost 1,000 miles away. It would have been even darker and stranger if I was closer.
