Star Trek: Picard

Spoilers galore.

I don't know how Avery Brooks or Kate Mulgrew feel about it but I think it would be great if they made appearances. Cisco was at Wolf 359 same as Shaw, plus he's a geezer too. I almost fell off the couch when it only affected 30 and under. Clever, clever plot point there with the transporter. I doubt I'll go back and look at the previous seasons any time soon but gather that Picard getting a new synthetic body was deliberate because Soong knew about the infection and that it wasn't Irritable Bowel Syndrome or whatever

So...... actual Great Link Changelings somehow coopted the Section 31 Starfleet created ones, including the weird alien samurai that indeed should've been able to morph out the the way like a T-1000.

Shelby. Brought back just to speechify and then get shot in the head. Well, after that speech maybe it wasn't the Borg it was just a critic.

I'd love to see Defiant back in action under Cisco - don't remember it being compromised. Enterprise-D was really cool, they're pulling put all the stops. I saw the recreation at The Star Trek Experience in Las Vegas and it was disappointing. That bridge looks like the lobby of a futuristic Marriott Courtyard. But, its about having the band back together on it that animates it. Kirk's original bridge can just sit there with nobody on it and be far cooler.

God, am I 25 again ? :)

We watched Best of Both Worlds last night and I really started getting back into it. Haven't seen it in years. I will surf the other series for a few good ones. Admittedly there was a lot of bad ones too that can be left alone.

The next episode is the big finale and there's a scene middway through the end credits of the next episode that they say wraps it up well...

We watched All Good Things last night and it didn't seem to hold up as well as I remembered it. Maybe because I know what they look like now and where that series headed. Two good movies, two unwatchable disasters and then Picard. I tried to watch season 1 and didn't like it, season 2 sounded abysmal but maybe it needs a fresh look.

Waiting for Thursday but already I've seen suggestions that maybe there should be a season 4. With the TNG crew to leaven it I'd watch it.

I need to rewatch the whole thing in the proper cannabanistical frame of mind.
A bit of an anticlimax. But, what new thing were they going to come up with at this point ? A mostly dead Borg remnant hiding in Jupiter - clever ! So what's up with Starfleet ? They didn't detect it? Look what happened... Like NORAD maybe they needed to crank up that big dial to see better. Also, I guess drone tech has advanced quite a bit since Scotty jury rigged Enterprise so a chimp and two trainees could run her because they didn't seem to have any problem taking a huge ship into combat with just the oldsters on the bridge. I wonder if an M6 multitronic unit did all that.

Swords are fun, poker. I enjoyed it all. One nitpicky though - it's generally considered bad luck to rename a ship. Even in the good old days of fighting sail the Royal Navy didn't. There were a couple of examples in the US Navy in WW2 where they did and only served to reinforce the superstition.

Q. OK I'm game, they want to keep the franchise alive and I'm .... engaged ... you might say :)

Episode 10. Nicely done!

Yes indeed, very well done, outstanding!...What's not to like about this finale, even Worf looked and acted like the old Worf a few times too lol...President Anton Chekov, what a nice tip of the hat to the original series, voiced by none other than Walter Koenig himself as the son of Pavel Chekov from the original Enterprise...

So now we know what really happened to the Borg after the finale of Star Trek Voyager...

The Borg, decimated and defeated after Admiral Janeway from the future helped Voyager get home, with the help from the Changlings, tried one last time to assimilate the Federation...They changed their approach, more resentful and seeking revenge too, not only wanting to assimilate but also with a stronger desire to simply destroy everything not Borg...I liked that!...I also liked seeing a handful of drones surviving, just enough of them left to cause a little havoc...

That was one hell of a sight, seeing the Federation fleet all guns blazing at Earth's last defenses and President Chekov warning the rest of the Federation to stay away from Earth, not unlike the original series movie with the President of Earth warning people to stay away from Earth when the probe from unknown origin was decimating Earth, before Kirk and the crew bring back the whale to save the planet...Excellent climatic scenes in this final episode...

The Borg ship sticking out of Jupiter's Red Spot!...Fucking awesome!...Glad they used the Borg Queen (voice over) from First Contact, loved hearing Alice Krige's voice again in that part, she is 68 years old now btw...

I was sure the Next Generation crew were gong to get killed off saving the Federation for the last time, given the title of the episode was called "The Last Generation" and then seeing those final moments when La Forge gave the command to destroy the Borg ship...I thought this was the end of the TNG Enterprise crew and it would have been a fitting end for them too, but also glad that didn't happen lol...

Captain Seven, wow, who would have thought, seeing Seven of Nine on Voyager as a Borg drone all those years ago, damn she has come a long way...It was also very fitting that Tuvok be the one to promote her, I would have liked to see a few moments of Voyager reminiscing with Tuvok and Seven, but this was a Next Generation show and not Voyager lol...I didn't think we would see Captain Janeway, there's more than a bit of friction between Kate Mulgrew and Jeri Ryan...Now Seven of Nine has her own ship and called the Enterprise now no less!...Remember they changed the name of another ship before, this was for Captain Sisko after the original Defiant was destroyed, the replacement was renamed Defiant...

Definitely going to binge watch this season again soon, but I'll be rewatching this final episode later tonight though...

This was truly a fitting end for the Next Generation crew...

I had forgotten about Sao Paulo... and frankly since NCC-1701A they can blow up about whatever they like and bring it back.

I didn't really follow Voyager that closely and only vaguely remember the ending. Probably haven't seen it since it's air date.

Good catch on Chekov - I got the reference but hadn't realized that was Walter Koenig. He seems the most amenable one left to the franchise. There is a truly, epically bad fan film on YouTube that I can't quite recall that he was in (with a whopper of a wig) and quite a few other familiar faces including Charlie X. I'll see if I can find it.

The series finale is an hour and half long and kind of stand alone as was much of the Voyager episodes, I'd recommend seeing that final episode again...I may rewatch that one tonight too, I have the entire Voyager series...

On a side note, I recently purchased everything Babylon 5, all the series and movies...I have wanted to watch that entire series from the beginning...

Hey everyone. Been taking a break from social media so I haven't been on the boards in a long time.

Pluto TV has been showing episodes of Voyager and Picard for free. I haven't seen Voyager since it was originally on TV. I forgot how much I liked the characters on Voyager. To me the cast always seemed smaller and tighter than the other Trek incarnations and the show always felt warmer and more positive.

I've watched the first 2 seasons of Picard. There are a lot of things I like about Picard but I have one problem with the show. I know a lot of people are going to hate me for saying this but, I just can't get around that fact that Patrick Stewart is in his 80s now and his age is REALLY showing. I read online that he has been struggling with a serious heart condition. Did he have a stroke? He seems to be struggling when he speaks. It just feels awkward to me to see him so frail and feeble.

We watched the finale and enjoyed it and yes, it was pretty much a standalone with a two minute briefing for Mrs.PF ahead of time to clue her in. Hard to believe it was that long ago.

He's not the only one getting older :) I had a flash of what a Star Trek Convention circa 2040 would look like. Ain't pretty

Some general thoughts. I loved this last season of Picard but I think that for all the cool stuff CGI brings it also loses something, like analog purists that say digital encoding loses fidelity. The prefix codes aren't a huge spoiler, it was just a quick line I missed that's a nod to TOS. So naturally I had to go back and watch that first encounter with Reliant for the billionth time. First of all, Ricardo Montalban just owns Khan and chews up the scenery, plus you have that fantastic sound track.

They did this with ship models. In fact I think the Genesis Device expository scene was one of the first uses of CGI in a movie. It's like analog fidelity, those models bring a look of realism that all the CGI in the world never had to begin with. Check out the differences - I found a clip that noodles with the original effects.

Original

CGI

Plus, I love all the clicky bee-boop switches. You realize Spock's prefix code switches could've been replaced by a telephone keypad ....
