Hi guys, I was just reminded about this old case [from 2000] by means of a late night documentary on TV last night [which just about managed to stop me nodding off. lol]
It is the Jan 5th 2000 Illinois Triangle UFO Case
Illinois Triangle UFO Sighting by many police officers
... as I say, this case was pretty big at the time and garnered plenty of attention [19 years ago] but is seldom mentioned on todays forums which i find a little surprising as there has never been "to my knowledge" anything like a satisfactory mundane explanation for something so much 'un-mundane' an occurrence and to demonstrate the impact that the event had at the time , The incident was examined in various television shows including the ABC special Seeing is Believing with Peter Jennings an hour-long Discovery Channel special UFOs Over Illinois, an episode of the Syfy series Proof Positive and a half-hour-long independent documentary titled The Edge of Reality: Illinois UFO, January 5, 2000 by Darryl Barker Productions and the event was even chronicled by means of a song on Detroit singer "Sufjan Stevens album"
..... So why is this case [among other equally strong cases] not being regularly talked about? ... and why are the ETH-naysayers not obliged to provide any kind of reasonable alternative explanation of what the witnesses reported before being allowed to simply move on to the next [denial] case whilst all the time bleating out their over used mantra of "I have yet to see any kind of proof to support the ETH!" [in their usual well practiced utterly complacent manor].
..And even when they do occasionally attempt an alternative, then five will get you ten that they try to cram a square peg into a round hole, rather than admit the obvious explanation is the leading candidate in the case.
By far the most widely touted 'explanation' for the sighting of a large triangular craft [usually massive, silent and demonstrating incredible maneuverability ... ie snails-pace without falling from the sky, suddenly thrusting away as fast as a bullet, and turning on a sixpence etc.] is that it is the product of the ubiquitously-mooted "Air force Black Project"!.. Which after all is the only real possible-alternative ...[really... unless you subscribe to the metaphysical side-track world of Vallee, Keel and the rest of the billionaire-book-touters]...
.. but it's an alternative that is riddled with battleship sized holes, such as where, when and most importantly.. how? ... as in how the hell did they build a fleet, or even a single one of these "Football-field-sized super hi-tech gravitation-defying craft that can perform the witnessed feats that have been reported by the absolute plethora of witnesses over the years? ... btw..Who is piloting these things? Who can withstand the phenomenal G's that executing a 90 degree turn at 20,000-? mph without turning to mush?
... And where would such a craft be built?... and where would such a craft be kept?
Well you can suggest any of the rumoured 'secret bases' such as Area 51 etc... but in this case the sightings were all in Illinois and so a quick google tells us that there is only one candidate in that fine state... and that is ...Scott Air Force Base.

...but from looking at the base map...imho , I doubt that there are any unconventional aircraft housed there. But of course, just because the sightings were over Illinois, it doesn't automatically follow that the craft is housed there, which then again begs the question.... "if this thing is so Top Secret... then why fly into a state and advertise your presence as manifestly as a neon draped Goodyear Blimp. [as these things often do... remember the cat and mouse games over France and Belgium 10 years before this incident]
... So no, for me the 'top-secret AF-Black-Project' has far too many gaps to bridge... [not least that I simply do not believe that human technological ability is way behind these things...!] ... And so unless anyone here can offer another [Earthly] explanation for this [and many other] sighting then I submit that not acknowledging the ETH as the leading candidate is tantamount to wilful deceit and a pandemic display of needless irrationality, by means of adhering to an Obstinate refusal to accept the facts as reported and instead substituting them for imagined scenarios that fit their own religiously held maxim that "we are alone!"
Cheers.
