A little later and DV's response is gone - Randallbot is so confident of his arguments that he bravely edits and deletes other people's posts:

What a pedantic weirdo that guy is. And the best kind of pedant - the one who is not so knowing himself.

The way he talks around the problems with Gene, and repeatedly attributes negative motives to others there suggest to me he is not entirely comfortable as Gene’s spearcatcher.

You are selling your freaky little soul for a box of Cracker Jack, J. Randall Murphy, and there isn’t even a prize in the box.

I wonder if he gets so preachy only when thoughtlessly defending crooks whose behavior deep down he is not entirely comfortable with, or if that is just a default rhetorical mode for him.

Hey J. Randall Murphy. How do you know your boss is poor?

Yeah that’s the one - she and JRM have got this ontological thing going on. They have to meet “secretly” on that forum as it’s illegal in Canada
They seem to be made for each other. She's just about as bullheaded as he is. She does make more sense, in that one can tell what her calcified opinion is from her messages. She is always forming opinions on topics she knows nothing about, then mulishly "defending" them no matter what anyone else might bring to the discussion. Yep, match made in heaven.

wow - why say something with just one word when you can spout a thousand ! crazy man - I wish I'd read this before ever having bothered to try to rationalise with him on the Paracast forum. He's like the proverbial "nutter on the bus" - oh my god. I can remember being into these things in such a nerdy way when I was a kid - before I discovered women! Me and some of my mates had a "ufo club" and we each had our own garden shed "HQ" , typed up little ID card and badges, we had secret codes and went on ufo hunts on our pedal bikes. Sounds like that guy never grew out of that stage - probably never discovered women! Blimey it all begins to make some sort of crazy sense now!! :)
Oh, indeed. The Randallbot is just one of those guys that won't shut up and can't resist jabbering at length about nothing at all. If there's one thing he likes, it's most definitely Randalllyak!

I see that the vast international organisation (of one!) which is Randallbot's "USI" is advertertising for a number of exciting "Volunteer Opportunities :

Existing Projects
Here at USI Calgary (a garden shed in mum's back garden) "we" have a combination of creative and administrative opportunities, some with potential for monetary rewards. Here are some examples.

  • Writing Articles - Write articles for the USI website.
  • Membership Drives - Attract individual & group memberships.
  • Graphic Design - Create banners and graphics for print and web.
  • Online Networking - Acquire exchange links with other quality websites.
  • Fund Raising - Get paid for successfully acquiring grants, donations and advertising.
  • Administrative Tasks - Catalog and classify of historical UFO reports.
  • Investigative Reporting - Monitor & follow-up on UFO sightings and cases (bring your own silver foil hat)
  • Do Your Own Thing - Do you have a great idea or special talent ... tell us !

There is further information on the USI site (usually pronounced, in Venusian, as the sound of each individual letter, as in "yoo-ess-aye") as to how JRM took a membership of some 2000 fellow nerds and grew it right down to that of 1 !

It's a tragic story:

"Unfortunately, Network Solutions sent USI's domain name renewal form to the wrong address. In those days there was no grace period for renewals and by the time USI received it, domain name predators had closed in and snapped up USI's dot-com domain name. Shortly after that, USI suffered a computer crash that destroyed its member database. Somewhat cryptically, both of these incidents happened within a few weeks of being contacted by an unknown group claiming that they would be willing to share secret UFO related information on the condition that USI shut down its website. Undeterred by these early setbacks, USI continued to evolve and has become one of the Internet's most persistent and better quality ufology websites."

He's truly priceless isn't he? :wacko8:

I would not have ordinarily posted something like this. In regard to podcasts, other people's lifestyle's do not overly concern me and neither does their past behavior. Brian Dunning had his problems and appears to have recovered from them. I enjoyed Skeptoid but don't listen to that show anymore because at last check the solicitations were becoming onerous. None of my business what car the man drives, where he lives or his personal habits. Current behavior as it relates to a show or its attendant forums does concern me, and that's why I left.

I saw this today. I still look because maybe someone interesting will come back on - they have had some good guests in the past, some even fairly recently. Something USI posted yesterday:

For the good of the community. Indeed. In other areas when a particular interest group attempts something like a fund drive, a march, a public meeting - and then does a face plant they often take the polite out by saying "at least we raised awareness"

I admit that some of the stuff in this thread doesn't sit well with me, but overall it has raised the awareness of the community.

Another thing that could be brought to light is what just happened to this forum. You know, the one using the same forum software that other forums use. I guess the raised level of awareness regarding security vulnerabilities was a noble effort designed to do nothing other than selflessly benefit others.

Wide eyed do-gooders can have a surprisingly narrow field of view.

For the sake of my own sanity I don't want to have to read his response to this but... I am tempted to ask how he feels the last dozen or so guests they interviewed advanced any cause or raised community awareness of anything except how the paranormal is full of flakes and people with books to sell (sometimes it's the same person!).

Sigh. I have to say, and this is on me, I wanted to take a break from commenting on Gene and his ways, since I felt I was getting too mean about things. But now J. Randall Murphy has got me irritated. So I'm venting about both of them. I should've tried harder to stay out of it. Oh well.

I know what you mean - he's so bloody irritating, pretty stupid too, but he really thinks that he's some sort of genius! So we're never going to get through to him. You just have to take a look at his USI website to get an idea of his pretty juvenile mentality. Nobody's really listening/writing to him anyway - other than dear Constance :)

He actually believes there will come a point where they have a paid staff ?! What world are these two nincompoops living in?

USI Calgary does seem like a pretty sad case but, who knows what I would think of him in person. (I hope to never find out.) I have come to think that he may believe that he is helping Gene though. I still can believe he's enamored of being the Paracast co-host and wouldn't mind 'inheriting' the show but, I'll grant that he may think he is being positive / helpful as he claims. That said it hardly says much for him that he is willfully ignoring the weight of evidence about Gene and his behavior.

I would venture to guess the world of 2007 or thereabouts when the podcasting field was far less crowded and the economy had yet to tank. Just, you know, 12 years or so behind the times. A comfortable enough remove from the cold hard facts of reality, apparently.

A question is what does Gene really make of J. Randall Murphy. I mean, he can't find him any more likable than anyone else ever has, can he? Oh well. They may deserve one another though I'm not sure anyone deserves Gene.

New projects?

No food, but going to a food bank (or the senior center) apparently gives him nightmares.

Yes he'll let us know about those new projects when he has thought up some new bullshit. Looks like he has already declared the (nine months in development scam) store a failure. He doesn't even mention it.

I think Gene's problem with food banks is that they don't give Michelin starred food and there is nobody to wait on him. Can't expect him to live like the normal riff raff.
