Europe engulfed by coronavirus: Angela Merkel warns up to 58 MILLION Germans - 60-70% of the population - will be infected, as Spain sees infections triple in two days and Italy records 168 fatalities in ONE DAY

Addressing a parliamentary group meeting of her Christian Democratic Union party in Berlin today, Chancellor Angela Merkel (left with her hand over her mouth) said up to 58 million of her countrymen could contract the fast-spreading coronavirus. When she made the announcement there was silence among other politicians at the meeting, according to reports. Merkel told her party: 'Sixty to 70 per cent of people in Germany will become infected with the coronavirus.' Health Minister Jens Spahn confirmed the Chancellor's figures if a vaccine is not developed before the virus takes hold of Europe.

Today it was announced that large cultural events in Berlin's theatres, operas and concert houses will be cancelled from tomorrow to prevent coronavirus contagion. Germany, which has so far seen two deaths from the disease that has infected more than 110,000 people worldwide, has a population of 82.9 million people. It came as Spain announced its total number of cases today surged to 1,622 infections and 35 deaths as the deadly virus continues to spread across Europe. The World Health Organisation warned the infection is now spreading between humans in nearly 30 countries across the continent. 'This tsunami has overwhelmed us': Doctors reveal the horrors of Italian hospitals where coronavirus 'war has exploded' and dying patients have to be left untreated as medics work 'day and night'

A medic in northern Italy told a friend in the UK that hospitals were running at '200 per cent capacity' with operating theatres hurriedly converted into intensive care units. Non-coronavirus cases are being sidelined with some medics being given a 'leaflet' and told to perform specialist tasks for which they are not qualified, while some patients over 65 are not even being assessed, the doctor said. His dire warnings were echoed by a second doctor who suggested people should be more scared, saying that overzealous warnings to remain calm meant 'the danger of what is happening does not reach people'. Pictured left: medics treat a patient at a hospital in Schiavonia; top right: hospital workers in Turin; bottom right: a coffin is taken out of a hospital in Venice today.

In full: Chilling message from medic in northern Italy

'I feel the pressure to give you a quick personal update about what is happening in Italy, and also give some quick direct advice about what you should do.

'First, Lombardy is the most developed region in Italy and it has extraordinary good healthcare, I have worked in Italy, UK and Australia and don't make the mistake to think that what is happening is happening in a third world country.

'The current situation is difficult to imagine and numbers do not explain things at all. Our hospitals are overwhelmed by Covid-19, they are running 200 per cent capacity.

'We've stopped all routine, all ORs [operating rooms] have been converted to ITUs [intensive treatment units] and they are now diverting or not treating all other emergencies like trauma or strokes.

'There are hundreds of patients with severe respiratory failure and many of them do not have access to anything above a reservoir mask.

'Patients above 65, or younger with comorbidities, are not even assessed by ITU, I am not saying not tubed, I'm saying not assessed and no ITU staff attends when they arrest.

'Staff are working as much as they can but they are starting to get sick and are emotionally overwhelmed.

'My friends call me in tears because they see people dying in front of them and they con only offer some oxygen. Ortho and pathologists are being given a leaflet and sent to see patients on NIV [non-invasive ventilation]. PLEASE STOP, READ THIS AGAIN AND THINK.

'We have seen the same pattern in different areas a week apart, and there is no reason that in a few weeks it won't be the same everywhere, this is the pattern:

1) A few positive cases, first mild measures, people are told to avoid ED [emergency department] but still hang out in groups, everyone says not to panic.

2) Some moderate respiratory failures and a few severe ones that need tube, but regular access to ED is significantly reduced so everything looks great.

3) Tons of patients with moderate respiratory failure, that overtime deteriorate to saturate ICUs [intensive care units] first, then NIVs, then CPAP [continuous positive airway pressure] hoods, then even O2 [oxygen].

4) Staff gets sick so it gets difficult to cover for shifts, mortality spikes also from all other causes that can't be treated properly.

'Everything about how to treat them is online but the only things that will make a difference are: do not be afraid of massively strict measures to keep people safe.

'If governments won't do this at least keep your family safe, your loved ones with history of cancer or diabetes or any transplant will not be tubed if they need it even if they are young. By safe I mean YOU do not attend them and YOU decide who does and YOU teach them how to.

'Another typical attitude is read and listen to people saying things like this and think 'that's bad dude' and then go out for dinner because you think you'll be safe.

'We have seen it, you won't be if you don't take it seriously. I really hope it won't be as bad as here but prepare.'

Does vaping make you more susceptible to coronavirus?

In a press briefing on Monday, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio revealed that, despite the fact that older people are generally most at risk of serious illness from coronavirus, one of the current cases in New York is an otherwise healthy 22-year-old man.

"Why is a 22-year-old man stable but hospitalized at this point? The one factor we know of is he is a vaper," de Blasio said. "So, we don't know of any preexisting conditions, but we do think the fact that he is a vaper is affecting this situation."

On Monday, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reiterated its guidance that older Americans and people with medical conditions like cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and chronic lung disease are most susceptible to coronavirus. People who are immunosuppressed because they have cancer or they're on a type of medication that weakens their immune system are also more at risk.

But if what Mayor de Blasio is saying is true — if vaping is a factor in contracting the coronavirus illness, known as COVID-19 — then that could affect a huge group of Americans.

"Well, if there was ever a reason to quit, here's another one," Dr. Tara Narula, a CBS News medical contributor and a board certified cardiologist at New York's Lenox Hill Hospital, said Tuesday on "CBS This Morning." "Anything that's going to compromise your lungs is going to increase your risk of being susceptible. We know that smoking decreases your ability to really fight infection."

UK health minister tests positive for coronavirus

British MP Nadine Dorries, a minister in the health department, has tested positive for coronavirus, she said in a statement on Tuesday, raising concerns about whether senior government figures have been infected.

"I can confirm I have tested positive for coronavirus... and have been self-isolating at home," said the Conservative MP. Health officials are now trying to trace where she contracted the virus and who she has been in contact with, she added.

Six people have died in Britain from the virus, with more than 370 confirmed cases.

Dorries, who helped craft the legislation to fight the bug, is the first British politician to be diagnosed with COVID-19. The Times reported that she had been in touch with hundreds of people, including Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

She fell unwell on Friday while signing the document that declared coronavirus a notifiable disease, meaning companies could obtain insurance cover, said the paper, adding she was now believed to be on the road to recovery. "I would like to thank... the wonderful NHS staff who have provided me with advice and support," she said, referring to Britain's National Health Service.

The shock news is likely to increase calls to suspend parliament, despite the government's reluctance to do so in the middle of a health crisis.

Coronavirus: New York Creates 'Containment Area' Around Cluster In New Rochelle

new-rochelle_wide-5144a5c91e70ad11b68a79b93538807856ddfde4-s800-c85.jpg

Updated at 9:15 p.m. ET

New York is creating a "containment area" around a community in New Rochelle, in an attempt to limit the spread of coronavirus in an area that quickly became the state's largest source of COVID-19 infections, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Tuesday.

"It is a dramatic action, but it is the largest cluster in the country," Cuomo said. "And this is literally a matter of life and death."

A synagogue in the city has become the epicenter of an outbreak in Westchester County — which accounts for 108 of New York state's 173 coronavirus cases. Hundreds of people in the Young Israel congregation have already been under a voluntary quarantine order that was issued last week. The congregation's rabbi has confirmed that he is among those who have tested positive for the virus.

As of Tuesday, that synagogue is also at the center of a circle that extends for a 1-mile radius, marking the state's containment area. Residents would still be allowed to move around — but the new policy effectively blocks any large public gatherings in the area, to prevent further transmission of the virus.

"New Rochelle is a particular problem," Cuomo said. "The numbers have been going up, the numbers continue to go up, the numbers are going up unabated — and we do need a special public health strategy for New Rochelle."

The governor is calling on the National Guard to help support the containment area. Cuomo said the troops will be deployed "to deliver food to homes, to help with the cleaning of public spaces."

At a news conference and in a statement posted online, New Rochelle Mayor Noam Bramson stressed that the National Guard would play only a limited role, saying, "The Guard will not be engaged in military or policing functions."

Bramson also said several public and private schools are in the containment area.

Schools and large gathering places inside the containment area will be closed for two weeks, Cuomo said. Officials will use that time to clean the schools, he added. The new policy will take effect Thursday and remain in place through March 25.

To reduce contacts between the containment area and the outside world, a new coronavirus testing facility will also be placed inside the area in New Rochelle.

"This is an evolving situation," New York Health Commissioner Dr. Howard Zucker said. "We have moved from a containment strategy to more of a mitigation strategy."

People will still be allowed to go in and out of the containment zone, Cuomo said. But any facilities that would bring large gatherings of people, such as schools and synagogues, will be closed.

Coronavirus: Sacramento County Gives Up On Automatic 14-Day Quarantines

"This will be a period of disruption for the local community, I understand that. Local shop owners don't like the disruption; nobody does. Local politicians don't like the disruption. I get it," Cuomo said, adding, "This can't be a political decision. This is a public health decision."

The governor also said the decision reflects a recommendation from Zucker. "In a situation like this, whether you're president, mayor, or governor, let the experts decide," Cuomo said. "And let the science drive the decision. When you politically interfere in science, that's when you tend to make a mistake."

Theres almost 60 infected now in Finland, in just couple of days theyve doubled.

Yes But, It's about time people stopped fearing the spread of a pandemic and accepted there is a terrible new cold going around that sometimes kills people. There are a lot of diseases that kill more than this new Covid-19

I don't say this because you are any particular example of the widespread panic, I say it because literally everyone is panicking over something that we simply can not contain, And are most likely going to have to overcome the old fashioned way, By catching it and over time people just survive it or they don't.

You can skip this part I add it for context.

Marburg virus
Both the Marburg and Ebola viruses are members of the filovirus family and are characterized by hemorrhagic fever. Other symptoms include fever, headache, sore throat, myalgia, arthralgia, epigastric pain, vomiting, and diarrhea. In 1967, the Marburg virus was discovered to cause human illness by researchers in Marburg, Germany, following exposure to green monkeys endemic to Uganda. Bats are thought to be the natural reservoir for the virus, but this hypothesis has yet to be confirmed. The death rate for the Marburg virus is as high as 90%, with infected people usually dying of bleeding into the gastrointestinal tract and skin, shock, disseminated intravascular coagulation, and multiorgan failure. No antiviral therapy or other vaccine exists for the Marburg virus.

Ebola virus
We all know about the 2014–2016 Ebola virus outbreak that occurred in West Africa—the largest outbreak since the discovery of the virus in 1976. But, did you know that more than 11,000 people died during this outbreak? Scientists do not yet know where the rare yet fatal Ebola virus comes from, but they believe that it is animal-borne, based on the nature of similar viruses, with fruit bats being the most likely source. The bats carrying the virus can transmit it to other animals, such as primates, spreading it to the human population. Human-to-human exposure and transmission are also possible via direct contact with infected blood and body fluids.

Symptoms of Ebola virus can be sudden, and include fever, fatigue, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, vomiting, diarrhea, rash, impaired kidney and liver function, and internal and external bleeding. Of note, the average case fatality rate is approximately 50%, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). Because there is no proven treatment (ie, antiviral drugs) for the Ebola virus, supportive care (rehydration with oral or intravenous fluids) and treatment of specific symptoms are often used to improve survival outcomes, but some experimental treatments—including convalescent serum and antibody treatment—have been administered. Furthermore, a concerted research effort to develop a vaccine has been underway for some time.

Hantaviruses
In 1993, an outbreak of hantavirus pulmonary syndrome—caused by exposure to the Sin Nombre hantavirus—occurred in New Mexico and Arizona. This influenza-like disease is followed by acute respiratory failure. Deer mice serve as reservoirs for the virus, with exposure and transmission possible via inhalation of the deer mice’s urine or feces. Although rare, the virus may be transmitted if a rodent with the virus bites a human. Campers and hikers are, therefore, especially at risk. Fortunately, this virus is not spread via human-to-human contact. Early symptoms of infection include fatigue, fever, and muscle aches, particularly in large muscle groups; late symptoms—about 4 to 10 days following the initial phase of illness—include coughing and shortness of breath.

Because people don’t have antibodies to the virus, symptomatic infections are the norm, with mortality rates of 38%, according to the CDC. There is no treatment, cure, or vaccine for the virus. However, survival outcomes may be improved by early disease recognition and receipt of medical care, including oxygen therapy for severe respiratory illness.

Japanese encephalitis virus
This virus is the most frequent cause of epidemic viral encephalitis in several countries across Asia, with an estimated 68,000 clinical cases annually, according to the WHO. In fact, 24 countries in the WHO South-East Asia and Western Pacific regions have endemic Japanese encephalitis virus transmission, putting over 3 billion people at risk for infection.

Symptoms include fever, neck rigidity, altered consciousness, headache, tremors, incoordination, and convulsions. Not only is the death rate of this disease high (30%), but survivors (30% to 50%) experience serious neurologic or psychiatric sequelae. This disease is spread to humans by infected mosquitoes of the Culex species that live in Asian rice fields, with reservoirs including water birds and pigs. An inactivated vaccine does exist for protection against this virus, and mosquito protection is recommended among those at high risk of exposure. Because no antiviral therapy yet exists for infected patients, treatment is symptomatic.

Lassa fever virus
Discovered in 1969 in Lassa, Nigeria, this pathogen causes hemorrhagic fever and multiorgan failure. Mortality due to the virus is high (15% to 50%), with death due to vascular collapse. In areas where the virus is endemic, asymptomatic infection is common. The virus is most commonly transmitted by exposure to the urine of the infected small rodent Mastomys in food or water sources. The disease can also be spread via inhalation of air contaminated with infected rodent secretions. Specifically, the airborne transmission may occur during cleaning activities such as sweeping. Human-to-human transmission is common in healthcare settings where proper personal protective equipment is not available or infrequently used.

Ribavirin can help if given early enough. Furthermore, hyperimmune serum, derived from survivors, can also be of benefit. No vaccine for this virus exists, with prevention taking the form of infection and rodent control.

Rabies
Rabies holds the distinction of being nearly 100% fatal if untreated. The virus is found worldwide in more than 150 countries and territories. Rabies infections cause tens of thousands of deaths globally, mostly in Africa and Asia. The incubation period is generally 2-3 months, with initial symptoms of fever with pain and tingling, prickling, or paresthesia at the wound site. Fatal inflammation of the brain and spinal cord usually develops as the virus progresses to the central nervous system.

Humans infected with rabies may exhibit one of two forms of the disease: furious rabies or paralytic rabies. According to the WHO, individuals with furious rabies may exhibit signs of hyperactivity, excitable behavior, hydrophobia, and aerophobia, with death occurring after a few days due to cardiorespiratory arrest. Those with paralytic rabies—which accounts for 20% of all human cases—gradually become paralyzed, starting at the wound site. Following a coma, death eventually occurs.

Dog bites are the most common cause of infection, followed by bats. Immediately after a bite, rabies shots are curative. Additionally, after contact with a rabid animal, it is important to wash the wound with soap and water, as infection usually occurs upon exposure of the mucous membrane to saliva.

Rabies the lest of those diseases mentioned still kills roughly 60 thousand people a year. Analytics here: Take a Bite Out of Rabies!.

This new coronavirus sucks. But people literally are blowing it out of proportion. It's literally less deadly than things that are already killing greater numbers of people, The problem is the way people are reacting to this thing, Like the black plague has returned. With fear and dread, If you look at the analytics we have, Unless those mortality rates from the CDC and WHO are inaccurate, Then this Coronavirus at it's worst is just another bug we have to watch out for seasonally.

Its not just my father i worry about.

Even tough im only 38, Im pretty sure I have high blood pressure so i might be in the risk group.

So if you dont see me or hear from me in the coming year, you can guess where i went.

However if it doesnt infect any more than your seasonal influenza, i can avoid it, as i have pretty much every year last decade.

No, I feel you on that, As for me, I try not to worry about myself, But my case is different, I've always had these heart problems, And I've lived with the prospect that tomorrow may not come since I was a teenager, I've had panic attacks since i was young over this, So, For me, There is not really threat that can come through and personally terrify me more than I've already been subjected to, But yes, I have my mother and father and they are both older, I do worry about that, in fact, I panic about it. These are not happy simple times we are living in right now brother. :(

Personally, I never put much stock into things like this, Of course, a horror author writing a book of prophecies about bad shit happening would have to hit the mark by accident at one point or another.

Me too,

This is a new video from that Fauci Guy, He says it's going to get worse before it gets better.

Like the Doc said we need to contain the INFLUX of people coming into the country. The cruise ships shouldn't be allowed to dock on our shores.

A Connecticut woman sparked a fatal apartment fire by igniting a bottle of hand sanitizer and chucking it at her girlfriend, a report said.

The suspect, 28-year-old Destiny Waite, set the bottle on fire Sunday morning while arguing with her girlfriend at the apartment building in Hartford, according to NBC Connecticut.

The flames spread to upper floors of the building — and firefighters responded and rescued a number of people from the flames, according to the report.

Four people were critically injured in the blaze. In a secondary search of the building, firefighters found 50-year-old Jerome Kyser dead inside, according to the report.

Waite faces murder charges for the blaze and was held on $1 million bond at her arraignment Monday,

Not to make light of the situation, but the toilet paper panic buying reminds me of the movie Demolition Man. In the future they no longer use TP and replaced it with three sea shells. Maybe they could release that technology now. The only fast food chain left in the future was Taco Bell. Maybe there's a hidden meaning because their logo looks like a Draco/Reptilian eye. Does this imply they won a lengthy battle/war.
