12 Marvel and DC Movies Coming in 2021 and 2022, From ‘Venom 2’ to ‘The Batman’

With the release dates of superhero movies being constantly rescheduled, TheWrap takes a look at all the packed Marvel and DC slate coming in 2021 and 2022

Thanks to COVID-19, nearly all of the Marvel and DC superhero movies from Sony, Disney/Marvel/Fox and Warner Bros. have been postponed until at least early 2021 -- when, studios hope, we might have a better handle on this disaster.

Will these dates stick?

That depends on a vaccine or how comfortable people feel spending several hours in a sealed off room with dozens of other people. But assuming everything works out there'll be quite a lot of comic book movies to watch sooner than you think. To help you keep track, here are the 12 films coming our way to cinemas over a 16-month-window in 2021 and 2022.

"Morbius" Pseudo Vampire "Morbius," the Marvel comic book villain turned antihero starring Jared Leto, Tyrese Gibson and J.K. Simmons was originally set to open in theaters on July 31, 2020. It'll now be released on March 19, 2021.

"Black Widow" was originally supposed to kick off Summer 2020 before being postponed to November 6, but it's set for May 7, 2021, the slot previously held by "Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings."

"The "Venom" sequel, "Venom: Let There Be Carnage," moved from October 2, 2020 to June 25, 2021.

"Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings" previously slated for May 7, 2021, will now open on July 9, 2021.

The not-a-sequel to 2016's "Suicide Squad," directed by James Gunn, was one of the films not affected by the pandemic and so far it will hit theaters on schedule Aug. 6, 2021.

"Eternals," directed by Chloé Zhao, will now open Nov. 5, 2021, after initially being slated for February 12, 2021.

"Untitled Tom Holland Spider-Man 3" The third "Spider-Man" film starring Tom Holland which was originally scheduled for release on July 16, 2021, will now open on Dec. 17, 2021.

"Thor: Love and Thunder," the 4th entry in the the "Thor" franchise starring Chris Hemsworth and the second directed by Taika Waititi, moves up a week from Feb 18, 2022 to Feb 11.

"The Batman" is getting a new Bat-time: The film directed by Matt Reeves will now hit theaters on March 4, 2022, after Denis Villeneuve's "Dune" was moved from its December 2020 release date to Oct. 1, 2021, originally the home of "The Batman."

Marvel Studios "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness," which was originally scheduled to be released on Nov 5, 2021, will now be released on March 25, 2022.

"Black Panther 2"Given the tragic, shocking death of star Chadwick Boseman, it is unknown how the "Black Panther" sequel will move forward, but the film is currently slated to be released on May 6, 2022.

"Captain Marvel 2," which was not previously dated, is now set for a July 8, 2022 release.

I noticed that the one movie I was seriously interested in, Dune, has been pushed back from December 2020 to October 2021. Even that date is hopeful.

I'd like to see Marvel do a good Fantastic Four movie, made from Disney's Marvel studios...An X-Men movie would be great too however Xmen need to rest a little, there's been many movies about them, hardly any of the Fantastic Four and the ones made weren't very good, especially the last one...

Kang the Conqueror as a villain for a Fantastic Four movie would be fantastic...

The Fantastic Four and Incredible Hulk movies have been pretty poor. Speaking of Kang the Conqueror, that was the first Marvel comic I every bought.

Recently I read that Kang the Conqueror is going to appear on the big screen in the third Ant-man movie with Wasp...I assume from there Marvel will build him up over a few movies to be the next supervillian to knock off in a big climax movie like they did with Thanos...

James Gunn Confirms Major Marvel Moment Was Stolen From Fan Theories

Comics pioneer Stan Lee’s cameo in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” completely changed how fans look at his other Marvel appearances. In the scenes, Lee is shown to be working with the Watchers, an extraterrestrial race that watches over the Marvel universe. With that, all of his previous cameos throughout the Marvel films were tied together.

The moment basically confirmed fan theories that Lee had been a Watcher all along, and apparently there’s a reason for that: Gunn stole it from you.

On Tuesday, the director replied to a fan about the cameo, saying, “I stole the idea from fan theories on Twitter, which I thought were hilarious.” Last July, the director also mentioned the moment was inspired by the fan theory, which has been around for years.

In 2016, a year before “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,” HuffPost asked “Captain America: Civil War” writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely about the theory. Though they loved it, the pair weren’t sure if Disney had the rights to the Watchers at the time.

Welp, it obviously has them now.

It is a bit weird saying this theory is “confirmed,” when it’s more like a snake eating its own tail. The theory inspired the idea to happen, which in turn confirms the theory? Meh. Why make your brain hurt?

Just take it as a win, Marvel fans. Apparently, you helped write “Guardians of the Galaxy 2!” Congrats!

The Fantastic Four just might not be popular. I like them, but on Disney+ I noticed that none of the FF cartoon series ever lasted more than one season.

I like the FF more so when they're dealing with a big boss like Kang the Conqueror or Galactus which I've heard Kang is going to be the next big movie boss to beat...So maybe they're going to tie in the FF with the movies as a build up to defeat Kang the Conqueror...I heard the 3rd Ant-man movie coming will introduce Kang because of the time jumping in the quantum realm gets his attention...

Speaking of Galactus, here's something I didn't know, Dormammu faces Galactus for the first time ever...Galactus is banished to the dark dimension and is changing because of the magical energies he's absorbing and never experienced before...I'm listening to this because I don't know who would win...

Wow! The victor was shocking, but makes sense lol...

...

So in a nutshell,
Galactus is banished to the magical realms and begins absorbing magical energies for the first time ever and it changes him...Dormammu faces Galactus and throws everything he has at him but Galactus absorbs all that energy and then grabs Dormammu and absorbs him completely becoming unbelievably powerful...

Doctor Strange freaks out and gathers all of the most powerful beings in all universes and tells them to attack Galactus with everything or else everything will be destroyed...The Living Tribunal and Eternity said they will not get involved that they will exist no matter the outcome but other super Supreme beings go after Galactus one by one and all of them get absorbed into Galactus...All the marvel super heroes and villains, everyone is just hammering Galactus with everything they got for one last chance to stop him...When Doctor Strange adds his magical powers along with the others there's a huge explosion and everything is gone but Doctor Strange...The Living Tribunal and Eternity show up and tell Doctor Strange they beat Galactus but everything was also destroyed in the process and they will allow the universe to be recreated as it was before Galactus was thrown into the magical realms and that's what happens, everything was reset to before Galactus became unstoppable...

Speaking of Kang the Conqueror, if they use him as the next boss villain in the movies that could lead to or open up an Apocalypse movie arc, because Kang had a part in how Apocalypse is in the present...The previous X-men movie with Apocalypse was awful and made Apocalypse look very weak, I know if/when Marvel uses Apocalypse in a movie they will bring out his true form and power...

Isn't Apocalypse just an unusual mutant? I never thought of him as on a par with the various Cosmic Beings.

At least Kang is a genius from the future. Also, I vaguely recall him as being somehow related to Dr. Doom. Am I just imagining that?

Kang discovered the existence of Apocalypse one day and decided to go back in time and steal Apocalypse when he was a baby and raise him to be a weapon for him to use in the future but his plans got screwed up and Apocalypse realizes later in the future what Kang was trying to do and found out where Kang's time traveling ship was parked in the past when Kang tried to steal him...So Apocalypse went back in time to that ship and with his ability to absorb and interface with technology he absorbs the technology of Kang's ship and in its database Apocalypse finds out about the Celestials and their cosmic level technology and makes plans and makes contact with Celestial technology making him extremely powerful but not invincible...He can still be beaten but now he's incredibly powerful, he can manipulate his form and any type of energy, he's beaten Thor a couple times, almost killed him...Once in Secret Wars I think it was, Thor went back in time and had multiple Thors from multiple time periods all fighting Apocalypse at once and Apocalypse beats them all...

Thanks. I didn't know those details and backstory.
How about Kang and Doctor Doom? Any connection?

How about Kang and Doctor Doom? Any connection?

The only bit I know about their ties is they fought together as allies during the original infinity wars, trying to take advantage of all the chaos...I know there's more than that but I haven't read too many comics that revealed much back story on Doom, I'll check into that more and read some comics detailing their connections...
