Crocodiles ( not sure about Alligators) can lose a foot thru fighting and not get infected in filthy stagnant swamp water. Scientists are trying to find out just how they can do this so then they can apply that to humans.

And this applies to them losing the front of their face in what way???

An alligator missing the first 4-5 inches of snout is going to look pretty funny.

They probably have some kind of natural anti-freeze in their blood and go into a hibernation state like frogs.

Ummm I said a foot. The exact case was talking about one of their feet , the front one I believe it was. Ripped off in a territorial dispute . Even though it was immersed in filthy germ ridden tepid bog water it did not get infected.
