I'm dubious.

Nothing like a human could have existed on Mars. Or within the last billion years.

So what was he and when was he???

If you read Heinlein and make the assumption that any ancient Martians were more in touch with the spiritual plane he would have floated in the ether for, again, over a billion years before he reincarnated/possessed a human infant.

I will say that since he is remembering from over a billion years ago, his memory is better than mine.

Given that he is Russian the story could be a result of translation error.
