But the masses keep on multiplying.

No matter how you managed the food distribution, there will always be an increasing number of people needing a share of the pie.

I understand where you are coming from.

But in the UK we brought in the Clean Air Act to clear up after the Industrial Revolution. We have virtually banned coal burning for any reason. There is even a move to ban wood burning stoves.
We switched the whole country over to natural gas away from town gas.
Our Diesel cars are being taxed so high that those on low incomes are being penalised.
Many Euro countries are banning new Petrol/Diesel cars in the near future.

But non of this will matter if the population keeps on growing. The Planet is finite.

..There are plenty of resources to support the current population but most of those resources are used and controlled by a very few on the planet..

I would disagree. The masses use far more than the wealthy. There are far more of them.

I'm not a conspiracy theorist by nature but if things got bad I would not put it past the 'rich and powerful' to cut the rest of us out of our piece of the pie. :unsure8:

To me it would seem like A.I. would know from history about those who tried sterilization upon a mass of people or even those women in prisons now days thats its being done to without their knowledge or consent and the ramifications of such acts. Some times i wish i lived in the 1850`s , or i play red dead redemption 2 to much.

Remember that the AI has been charged with the task of saving mankind from itself.

It would not be concerned with how we think about things. After all, it is our thought processes that got us into this mess in the first place.

Consider this, one or even two rats wandering around by a river may seem cute. Very 'Wind in the willows' (yes, I do know Ratty was a vole), but when you have lots of rats running around and destroying your crops and property, it is time to get out the poison and the flame thrower.

We are destroying our food and property.

This is true, if we didn't treat our world as we have been and kept it clean of pollution and managed to control our waste we wouldn't have a food and population problem right now...The world could hold the people on it now comfortably however as @HAL9000 mentioned, the masses keep pumping out babies nonstop...So the responsibility is two-fold in this case, truly being responsible for our planet and maintain it and also being responsible for managing our own population growth and keep our growth in numbers in line with our management of resources...

The AI would only know what the programmers give it access to. And if there is no conversation for the AI to learn the context of that information it will most definitely Not think about it like a human.

Wars, disease, famine, natural disasters about cover it as the traditional go-to for population control. Not necessarily intentionally or under anyone's control, but they work. Don't see that changing too much AI or not. AI would have to factor factor that in as a normal part of the human condition.

The first three on the list are nowhere near as drastic as they used to be.

The AI would not be too concerned by how we like to behave. It will be more concerned with how we will have to behave to get things back to a reasonable state. It would apply logic. Something that we are often reluctant to do.

The way you've phrased this sentence it almost sounds as if you think humans are the sole reason for the climate changing the way it is currently...

No, climate change is normal, it happens all the time, small cycles and larger cycles of change. The problems that I see caused by humans are waste, plastics, etc. And the idiotic pretense that everything will always stay the same, when it is obvious that nothing stays the same, so instead of wanton, excessive consumption by some groups, those groups, who control a lot of resources, could be preparing all humans for the changes that happen.

    JaHaRa,

If a thousand rich people waste half their food, is it worst that a billion poor people eating all theirs ?

You seem to be missing the point that the numbers are continually increasing. And the majority of the increase will be poor.
They will be the ones (in fact are) who will try to come to the organised countries and take from their plates. The ones for whom there is no work. They are not necessary. they are surplus. We don't need them, don't want them. They are a major part of the overpopulation problem.

I know that sounds cold and callous. But it is true. And yet they keep breeding.

If they were to get their own countries in order it would make it easier for everyone to get on top of this problem. But they don't. They leave them. Often under intense pressure. But the reason doesn't actually matter. It is the migration out that does.

No country can ever get down to a fixed population when there is an never ending stream of migrants trying to get in.

Anyone who can't see this is being willfully blind.

Or they simply do not want to admit it and hope the problem will go away.

    It wont.

The rich and powerful rely on consumers. We will still get our pie; it will just cost more.

This was in another thread but since it discusses a possible AI takeover of our society I thought it would fit here...
