Reactions from an early test screening of
The Matrix 4 call it weird and surprisingly funny. The fourth entry in
The Matrix franchise comes eighteen years after the polarizing sequels,
Reloaded and
Revolutions, were released. After a few delays due to the coronavirus pandemic, the
new Matrix film is set to simultaneously release on December 22, 2021, to theaters and HBO Max.
The Matrix is the brainchild of the Wachowskis sisters and stars Keanu Reeves, Lawrence Fishburne, and Carrie-Anne Moss. The 1999 movie was a cultural phenomenon praised by audiences and critics alike for its unique style, action, and storytelling. Trying to recapture the success of the first movie, the Wachowski siblings wrote and directed two follow-up sequels that were not as well received. Considering the reception of the sequels, and the fact that the movies were billed as a trilogy, it seemed as if the franchise had ended. This was especially true considering that the main characters, Neo (Reeves) and Trinity (Moss) died at the end of
Revolutions. However, it appears that
The Matrix 4, whose title may have been revealed, is almost here.
