New Mystery Monolith Appears in California

Suggesting that the strange saga of the mystery monoliths is far from over, a third such object has now been found atop a mountain in California. The piece, which was reportedly discovered on Wednesday morning by hikers on Pine Mountain in the city of Atascadero, appears nearly identical to object in Utah which sparked what might best be called the 'monolith madness' that has unfolded over the last two weeks here in the United States and, oddly enough, Romania. As with the previous pair of found objects, the origin and purpose of the California piece are unknown.

Be that as it may, the discovery of a third monolith has, understandably, led to speculation that the objects are part of a some kind of marketing stunt. However, since the piece in Utah was apparently sitting in the desert for several years before being found, that theory is tenuous at best unless this entire affair is the work of an exceedingly patient individual or group. As such, setting aside the fantastic theory that the objects are connected to aliens, the most plausible explanation for the multiplying monoliths would seem to be that they are simply being created by copycats.

It remains to be seen whether or not the latest monolith will wind up disappearing as has happened to the two that appeared prior to it. Considering that creating such a piece requires relatively little in the way of resources or skills, this is probably not the last 'mystery object' that we'll see appear in some unexpected location. However, in a testament to the cynical nature of our modern era and a sign of diminishing returns, news of the California monolith's discovery has been met with far less wonder than the initial Utah object and, instead, a fair share of derision from people online who have likened the craze to a fad which has already run its course.

Well, people now know all you need is three pieces of sheet metal and some fasteners. That one is a lot taller.

The first one was a slight, terrestrial mystery. Those coming after have just been copycats.
Slow news day?

New Mystery Monolith Found in Colorado

Suggesting that the mystery monolith craze could be making a comeback, another of the puzzling metallic pieces has been found in Colorado just a week after the discovery of a similar pillar near Las Vegas. The odd object, which can be seen showcased in the video below, reportedly appeared this past weekend atop a hill on the property of the Howling Cow Cafe in the community of Bellvue. Manager Brooke Williams says that she first became aware of the mysterious monolith when some customers entered the restaurant on Sunday asking "where is the alien structure?"

The cafe manager subsequently learned that photos of the peculiar piece, which can be seen from a nearby highway, had been spreading like wildfire on local social media, which led to swarms of people visiting the cafe in the hopes of catching a glimpse of the mysterious monolith which stands eight feet tall and measures four feet wide. "It definitely added more foot traffic," Williams observed, "people from farther way than we normally get coming out here were asking questions and there were lines along the road to look at it."

As for who could have placed the piece atop the hill, cafe owner Lori Graves mused that "I would like to know the answer to that myself," noting that the only clue appears to be some tracks leading up to the metallic pillar. While she speculated that the monolith may have been the work of an artist or even aliens, one cannot rule out the possibility the cafe itself installed the eye-catching object as something of a clever marketing stunt. Should that be the case, it has already proven successful in light of the increase in visitors and media attention the mysterious monolith has generated in just a few days. The discovery of the piece in Bellvue follows a similar pillar that was found and then removed from a hiking trail near Las Vegas last week.
