This storm may do some serious damage in Florida...

The chaos before the storm: Panic buying sweeps Florida as supermarket shelves are stripped bare of water, toilet roll and tinned goods ahead of monster Hurricane Ian's 130mph winds: Biden cancels DNC meet in Sunshine State on Tuesday

Supermarket shelves across Florida have been stripped bare as panicked locals prepare for the first major hurricane to make landfall in the sunshine state in four years. Photos from the weekend showed lines of Floridians stretching back from supermarket registers through aisles stripped bare of bottled water and other essentials. Tropical Storm Ian is expected to strengthen into a hurricane on Sunday and reach 'major' hurricane strength - anything Category 3 or above - on Tuesday before it hits Cuba. The storm is expected to make landfall in Florida midweek, either late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning.

In a Sept. 16 video released by the Fort Lupton Police Department, a train can be seen crashing into a police vehicle on train tracks in Ford Lupton, Colo., which contained a woman handcuffed by authorities. In the footage, a train horn can be heard in the distance as police look through the vehicle, moments before it is hit by the train. According to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Yareni Rios-Gonzalez, 20, sustained serious injuries when the back of the patrol car was hit by a train near the town of Platteville, near Denver, just after 7:30 p.m. Rios-Gonzalez had been detained moments earlier after officers responded to what Fort Lupton police called a “high-risk vehicle stop” in a Facebook post. Edited bodycam and dashcam footage released by police shows officers approaching Rios-Gonzalez with at least one gun drawn, and ordering her to put her hands up and exit her car. Rios-Gonzalez’s lawyer, Jonathan Stine, told NBC News Monday that his client remains in the hospital. He told the outlet she lost teeth as a result of the impact, as well as suffering a broken arm, multiple fractured ribs and other injuries to her head and legs.

Now Fort Myers BURNS: Homes burst into flames after Hurricane Ian's 'tsunami-style' flooding kills hundreds - as thousands remain trapped and 2.7M are without power as Orlando is battered

Authorities in Florida have warned that fatalities will be 'in the hundreds' as Hurricane Ian continues to barrel its way across the state leaving a trail of complete destruction in its wake. Scores of people remain trapped on the rooves of their flooded homes as 2.5million are without power, with officials warning evacuees not to return home after the Sunshine State was battered by 150mph winds and 18ft storm surges. Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno, whose area covers Fort Myers, which has been one of the worst affected by the monster storm, confirmed that he was expecting hundreds of fatalities in his jurisdiction alone. Horrifying pictures show the level of devastation, with boats usually in the marina being forced onto the shore amid broken palm trees and damages infrastructures. Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood predicted the recovery effort for will be like 'something we've not seen in this county ever' while others are warning people to stay off the roads for their own safety. Helpless Floridians desperately called their relatives and the police, pleading to be rescued from their homes as they watched the flooded water break through their doors and begin rising dangerously higher and higher. Streets were turned into rivers, with the storm surge flooding the lower level emergency room of HCA Florida Fawcett Hospital in Port Charlotte, while fierce winds tore part of its fourth floor roof from its intensive care units.

President Biden U-TURNS on student debt relief for MILLIONS after lawsuit filings and public backlash over huge cost to taxpayers

The Biden administration has quietly announced a change in their student debt forgiveness program that could exclude four million borrowers who have loans owned or backed by private companies The u-turn by the federal government comes after the first legal challenges were filed and following criticism of the huge costs to taxpayers and claims the plan is an illegal use of his executive power. The Education Department announced Thursday that privately-held federal loans won't qualify for the relief plan, which the Congressional Budget Office said earlier this week could cost $400billion over a decade. The new rules refer to Perkins and Federal Family Education Loans, which are bank loans backed by federal guarantees. They used to be major component of federal student loans, but were stopped in 2010 after a major Obama administration overhaul shifted to direct government loans. Nevertheless, about four million people still have FFEL loans, according to government data identified by Politico. Forty-five million Americans owe student loans. The administration had initially allowed hose with FFEL loans could reorganize so they were eligible to receive the $10,000 to $20,000 of relief per borrower.

London coroner rules 14-year-old girl's death suicide resulting from social media: 'The Wild West era is over'

The ruling was the first of its kind placing direct blame for the child's official death on social media.

A London coroner has ruled a 14-year-old girl's 2017 death a suicide resulting from harmful social media posts. The ruling came Friday at the conclusion of an inquest — or a judicial inquiry — into Molly Russell's death five years ago, according to The Molly Rose Foundation (MRF) established in the 14-year-old's memory to prevent suicide among people under 25.

Coroner Andrew Walker of the Northern District of Greater London said her death was "an act of self harm while suffering from depression and the negative effects of online content."

Innocent dad visiting Marist student for Family Weekend is shot dead at NY hotel

I am horrified. This is very, very local. I have been t that Courtyard hundreds of times on service calls and have sat right there in the lobby drinking coffee. This poor guy was just visiting his kid. Question is, had this not occurred what would have happened next? A mass killing at Marist would be my guess. Who the hell knows, at least they got the bastards.

A dad visiting his kid during Family Weekend at upstate Marist College was fatally shot when bullets flew in the lobby of the local Courtyard Marriott where the innocent man was staying, authorities said Monday.
Two men with gang ties were nabbed in the shooting, and cops said they later found bomb-making materials and a “ghost gun” rifle in the suspects’ room at the Poughkeepsie hotel, according to the local NBC-TV affiliate.
The deadly violence erupted after one of the suspects got into an argument with hotel workers and others when he went down to the lobby to get coffee around 7:30 a.m. Sunday, a senior law enforcement official told the outlet.
The shooter had a 30-round, high-capacity magazine on him at the time, the source said.
The father of a Marist student was shot dead in the mayhem, the source said. He was not immediately identified.
“Yesterday morning, authorities made us aware of the tragic, fatal shooting of a parent of a Marist student at a local hotel several miles from campus,” a Marist spokesman said in a statement obtained by The Post.

“Our deepest condolences go out to the family, and we are offering the full support of the Marist community. We remain in contact with local authorities and will keep our community informed with any updates.”
The shooting came as the school celebrated Family Weekend, in which students are encouraged to invite their families for sports, entertainment and other activities.
During a search of the hotel after the shooting, investigators found materials that could be used as explosives, as well as manuals on the making of bombs, in the suspects’ room, police said. It’s unclear what the men might have been planning to do with the materials, authorities said.
The suspects had been smoking a PCP-like substance in their room before the shooting, the senior official told NBC.

Poughkeepsie Journal

FISHKILL – A Fishkill man has been accused of shooting at a village pizzeria on Sunday afternoon.
Six people were inside Antonella's when gunfire hit the storefront in Fishkill Plaza on Route 9 shortly before 2 p.m., but none of them were injured, state police said.
Gary Bonventre Jr., 42, was arrested shortly before 6 p.m. and accused of firing at the business. Police have not commented on what the motive may have been.

Antonella's is open for business Monday. In a Facebook post said the store called the shooting "a random incident" in which "a single bullet struck our front window." On Monday a large panel of wood covered the window.
"Thankfully, no one was injured in our restaurant," the post read. "We are grateful to local and state police for their swift response, and we will continue to assist them with their investigation."

State police responded to the shooting with town of Fishkill police and village of Fishkill police. Bonventre fled the scene, they said, before he was taken into custody. Police said they also found a .22-short caliber revolver.
Bonventre was charged with attempted first-degree assault, second-degree criminal use of a firearm and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, as well as six counts of first-degree reckless endangerment, all felonies.
Bonventre was arraigned in Fishkill Village Court and taken to the Dutchess County Jail on $100,000 bail, $100,000 secure bond or $1 million partially secure bond. He is due back in court on Oct. 17.

End of the (fury) road! Hundreds of scantily-clad revelers channel Mad Max and party the night away on final evening of Burning Man-style festival called 'Wasteland Weekend' in California's Mojave Desert

The festival holds a variety of wacky events including 'fight to the death under Thunderdome,' burlesque shows and drinking games, but anyone who attends must wear a costume, including staff, journalists and volunteers. Pictures show creative costumes full of references to dystopian movies and themes, with many choosing to bare all as they partied under the sun. There were also swimsuit contests and 'jugger matches,' as fellow apocalyptic movie The Salute of the Jugger was honored alongside the George Miller classic.

Both of these are quite local to me. It's one thing to sit in your jammies and read about this crap, it's another to have it in the back yard. The traffic will be a nightmare.

There has been something else - quite likely a paranormal event. I grew up in Hyde Park a mile and a half north of FDR's home and grave site. Been there uncounted times. There are rumors of strange noises and disturbances from the area of the memorial.

I think it's FDR's Democratic actual-Leader-during-times-of-global-existential-conflict corpse spinning like a dervish in it's grave.................

Outcry as thousands of prisoners are set to be RELEASED from jail when Illinois becomes first state to introduce no cash bail in January

  • Thousands of prisoners are set to be released across Illinois as it becomes the first state to do away with cash bail under the controversial SAFE-T Act.
  • The SAFE-T Act allows criminals back on the streets under the presumption of innocence guaranteed by the US Constitution
  • Criminals accused of certain crimes — like forcible felonies, stalking and domestic abuse — will be exempt from pretrial release
  • Seventeen different state attorneys from different counties in Illinois are desperately suing Gov. JB Pritzker to prevent the law from going into effect
  • They say it will increase already rising crime, and will cost taxpayers more
  • Pritzker has repeatedly defended the new law
