‘Something that should concern us all’: US workers are earning just 12 cents more now than they did in 1972 — adjusted for inflation.

Rampant inflation has been making headlines this year. But price levels have long been rising in this country — eroding the real wage of working Americans.

According to CNBC, American workers earned an average of $27.45 per hour in June 2022. Back in 1972, the same workers made an average of $3.88 an hour.

That’s serious wage growth right?

Not so quick. Those numbers are nominal wages that haven’t taken into account inflation.

When adjusted for inflation, American workers are earning just 12 cents more today than they did in 1972.

In other words, real wages — wages in terms of the number of goods and services that can be bought — have essentially been stagnant for 50 years.

“When the average American is not seeing his or her living standards increase over a period of decades, that’s something that should concern us all,” Harry Holzer, professor of public policy at Georgetown University, tells CNBC.

You can't have as much immigration into a country, such as the US has had in the past fifty years, without significant wage suppression.

Texas Governor Abbott tells Biden - if you don't enforce border laws, I will: Republican invokes invasion clause to send GUNBOATS to the border, build a wall, work with foreign countries on security and designate cartels as terrorists

The clause, found in Article I Section 10 of the Constitution, forbids individual states from unilateral military action 'unless actually invaded, or in such imminent Danger as will not admit of delay.' Republican Governor Greg Abbott suggested that could entail deploying Naval war ships along the border, constructing a wall, and working with foreign governments on Texas' security - among other controversial points. 'Your silence in the face of our repeated pleas is deafening. Your refusal to even visit the border for a firsthand look at the chaos you have caused is damning,' he wrote in a letter to the president.

Now Texas Governor Abbott sends TANKS to the border after threatening to send gunboats - as Republican invokes invasion clause to deal with migrants flooding over border

Texas Governor Greg Abbott is deploying National Guard troops in M113 armored personnel carrier to various positions along the border after earlier threatening to use gunboats in an attempt to quell the influx of migrants at the border. The news comes after Abbott invoked a Constitutional clause on Wednesday warning President Joe Biden that the Lone Star state would go rogue to defend itself from what he calls a migrant 'invasion' at the southern border. Texas Military Department officials ordered the 10 armored personnel carriers on Thursday and announced around 50 soldiers would be trained to operate them. Armored personnel carriers are large, heavily armored vehicles that move on tracks like tanks but are designed to carry troops into battle alongside tanks. Affectionately known as the 'battle taxi' by troops in the Army, the M113 is bulletproof and can withstand small explosions - the US recently sent 200 to Ukraine for the country's fight against Russia.

The mountain of World Cup beer going to waste after Qatari royals' booze ban: Thousands of cans of Budweiser are piled up in warehouse after rulers ordered last-minute U-turn on selling alcohol at stadiums

The beverage giant had been announced as one of the sponsors for the tournament, and had been granted a monopoly to sell beer at the grounds, but it is now only able to sell its alcohol-free version of beer there. Furious football fans started demanding refunds from World Cup bosses when the decision was made on Friday, understood to be following pressure from the Qatari royal family. It has left Budweiser facing the prospect of large amounts of stock now going to waste.

Workers RIOT at world's biggest Apple factory in China: Smash up surveillance cameras and clash with security in protest at COVID restrictions and overdue pay - in rare scenes of open dissent

Hundreds of workers took to the streets around the vast iPhone factory in Zhengzhou on Wednesday, confronting hazmat-clad personnel wielding batons. Surveillance cameras were smashed in a rare display of public anger in China. Zhengzhou authorities ordered mass testing and an effective lockdown for several districts in the central Chinese city starting Friday. City centre residents cannot leave the area unless they have a negative Covid test and permission from local authorities, and advised not to leave their homes. Restrictions will affect more than six million people but do not cover the iPhone factory, where workers have already been under Covid restrictions for weeks. Nearly three years into the pandemic, Covid cases are now higher than they have ever been in China. There were 31,444 domestic cases on Wednesday, the National Health Bureau reported, the highest since the pandemic began.

I know some people who worked for this company...

Furniture manufacturer fires its 2,700 workers by text and emails while they were ASLEEP two days before Thanksgiving: Warns them to stay away from work and sets cops on one driver for removing furniture from delivery van

A Mississippi-based company that had become one of the largest furniture businesses in the country laid off nearly its entire workforce two days before Thanksgiving. Approximately 2,700 workers, most of whom live in northeast Mississippi, with others in North Carolina and California, lost their jobs Monday. Shortly after the heartbreaking announcement, one driver who was out on a delivery was arrested by cops in Mississippi and accused of attempting to remove furniture from his truck. United Furniture Industries sent a memo via email and text to workers late Monday night informing them not to report to their shifts Tuesday. The layoffs come as economic experts predict a recession to hit in 2023. The memo said the layoffs were made at the 'At the instruction of the board of directors … we regret to inform you that due to unforeseen business circumstances, the company has been forced to make the difficult decision to terminate the employment of all its employees, effective immediately, on Nov. 21.' The memo did not offer any specific details about what led to the layoffs, merely referring to it as a 'difficult and unexpected situation.' Furniture Today, a trade publication, reported that United fired its chief executive, replacing him with current CEO Todd Evans.

Mexican president demands Biden explain sudden disappearance of drug dealer who was sentenced to 49 years in US prison - but is no longer in custody after just two years behind bars

A notorious Mexican drug dealer known as La Barbie is missing from the Florida maximum security prison where he was due to be serving 49 years.

Edgar Valdez Villarreal, 49, is no longer in the custody of the Bureau of Prisons - the federal corrections system. It is unclear if he might have been transferred out of custody because he is now a witness for the US government.

Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador is urging the Biden administration to explain why he is no longer listed as being in custody. 'The United States government has to clear it up as soon as possible. We're going to continue asking them,' he said last night.

A Bureau of Prisons spokesman said there were 'a number' of reasons why he may no longer show up in databases. 'There are a number of reasons why an inmate may be listed as ‘not in the custody of the Bureau of Prisons.

'Inmates who were previously in the custody of the Bureau of Prisons and who have not served their sentence may be out of custody for a period of time to attend court hearings, receive medical treatment or for other reasons.

'We do not provide specific information about the status of prisoners who are not in the custody of the Bureau of Prisons for security or privacy reasons.'

El Pais reports that the neither Mexican Attorney General’s Office nor the Secretariat of Foreign Affairs knows where he is.

Villareal was extradited to the US from Mexico in 2010.

Gavin Newsom's reparations committee will recommend handing $223,200 per person to all descendants of slaves in California at a cost of $559BN - in nation's biggest restitution effort ever

A reparations committee in California has suggested that descendants of slaves in the state should be compensated $223,200 each for 'housing discrimination'. The nine-member Reparations Task Force was formed by California Governor Gavin Newsom as part of the country's largest ever effort to address reparations for slavery. A focus of the California task force has been 'housing discrimination' - it has estimated the 2.5 million Black Californians require compensation of around $569billion. The task force is required to submit its final recommendations to the Legislature in June 2023.

The US Department of Energy is set to reveal the "holy grail" of zero-carbon power. John Jett and Jake Long/LLNL.

The US Department of Energy is set to reveal a “major scientific breakthrough” this week after scientists were reportedly able to produce a fusion reaction that created a net energy gain for the first time.
The development — a major milestone in the pursuit of limitless clean energy — was made recently at the government-funded Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California, sources told the Washington Post.
The net gain reaction, which is considered to be a “holy grail” of zero-carbon power, is a major step towards being able to create a technology one day that could offer a clean and virtually limitless supply of energy.
Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm is expected to announce the results of the fusion experiment at a media event on Tuesday.

A lab official said researchers were still finalizing their findings and nothing would be confirmed until the scheduled event.
The energy department also wouldn’t comment.
Scientists have been trying since the 1950s to replicate the same nuclear reaction that powers the sun as part of the global quest to offer clean energy and combat climate change.
But, until now, no researchers have been able to produce more energy from the fusion reaction than it consumes.

“To most of us, this was only a matter of time,” one of the lab’s senior fusion scientists said of the successful experiment.
The science of nuclear fusion is based on pressing hydrogen atoms so close to each other that they combine into helium — and then release torrents of energy.

Despite the recent breakthrough, scientists believe fusion power stations are still at least a decade away from commercial use.

The Biden administration has prioritized fusion energy research projects and dedicated tens of billions of dollars through the Inflation Reduction Act.
