I happen to watch part of Forrest Gump again the other night and listening to an older Howard Hughes interview with Calvin reminded me that Tom Hanks did a superb job with that Deep South accent and portrayal of simple honesty. Calvin's not an actor and it's hard to listen to the man, especially the secret police tape and not come away with exactly the same impression. I may be naive but it certainly sounds genuine to me. Much more so than Travis Walton for sure.
So, I picked up the latest iteration of his book. Normally I'd take flinty eyed look at Bud Hopkins hypnosis sessions but if the transcript from his session isn't in that book I'll track it down separately. I've listened to some of Barney Hill's sessions and they are disturbing - hypnosis definitely has it's place. So do EMF meters and so forth - people have let TV get into their heads making them think they're doing something they likely aren't.
So, here's the interview with Philip Mantle and a repeat of an earlier Calvin interview:
Edition 752 - Calvin Parker - A Tribute
Now, just to give equal time to the skeptical side of the coin I found Famous Alien Abduction in Pascagoula: Reinvestigating a Cold Case from 12 Volume 36 Issue 3 Skeptical Inquirer. It's attached here. I'll read it later but at a glance but see this attributed to Charlie getting lit up and carried away and freaking out Calvin sufficiently to concoct this story. I admit to bias here - that sounds like pure bullshit having just heard Calvin say that the first thing they did was to call the local Air Force base who deferred to the local police. He described in detail how the police behaved when they arrived and that they immediately conducted field sobriety tests on both of them. On that note, they didn't go off to a UFO group with a jar of piss, they called the authorities and submitted themselves voluntarily to what happened next.
I always thought this was a good case. In total honesty, as a young kid reading UFO Magazine or the supermarket rags right around the time this happened I saw a depiction of one of these creatures and it stayed with me until now - scared the bejeezus out of me then. I still wouldn't want to run into one of those pointy scary bastards out in the woods. Yikes ! At the time I remember being made fun of for being interested in UFOs, among a lot of other things. Things have certainly taken a Jump to the Left in 2023 haven't they?
