The Tale of the Book

From the Book of the Book...

A very wise man, the wonder of his age, taught his disciples
from a seemingly inexhaustible store of wisdom.
He attributed all his knowledge to a thick tome which
was kept in a place of honour in his room.

The sage would allow no one to open the volume.

One day the wise sage died and his disciples and friends surrounded him,
regarding themselves as his only heirs, ran to open the book,
so anxious they were to possess what it contained.

They were surprised, confused and disappointed when they
found that there was writing on only one page.
They became even more bewildered and then annoyed
when they tried to penetrate the meaning of the phrase
contained in the book which met their eyes.

It said: 'When you realize the difference between the
container and the content, you will have knowledge'

'When you realize the difference between the container and the content, you will have knowledge'

Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh (Osho) said this:

"Words are only containers, not the content. The content will be absorbed in the heart, and the containers have to be thrown away. You cannot carry all the containers always."

Reminds me of something a great guy said to me; "You're never going to remember anything I say 20 years from now."
Well that's just wasn't true. I didn't remember much but what I did remember was because it went to my heart.

Words are little bit like food. You don't remember much about what you ate later, but you know whether or not what you're eating is tasteful and enjoyable at the time.

To me words are the seasonings, the spices, the flavour, with the knowledge behind the words being either nutritious and digestible or empty calories, junk food...lol
