Its ok, he has lots of friends here
And by that i mean he doesnt really.. dont take that the wrong way
I'm generally a good-natured person and my attitude in forums like these is add something positive, constructive, or interesting when I can, and if I can't, try to remember to shut the hell up. I'm not into confrontation or endless debate. I realize some people are way more emotionally and intellectually invested in the UFO phenomenon and related topics than I am. There is too much serious and negative stuff going on in the world for me to expend too much energy in getting upset that someone in an online forum doesn't share my theories or opinions about aliens. Primarily, I'm here to learn, connect with some like-minded individuals, and have an outlet for my curiosity. I try to keep my mind as open as possible while still filtering out what I believe to be the copious amount of bullshit (and bullshitters) that permeates the "field of Ufology," for lack of a better term. The fact that several people I respect and admire from the Paracast forums have left that forum behind to post here is why I've joined Alien Expanse. I'm looking for a higher quality of intellectual discourse, with a minimum of online toxicity that seems to permeate most areas of public conversation, regardless of topic, on the interwebs.
Now, given
@Black Angus reply with the link above, I feel compelled to comment, as it reads on its face like a slight dig at me for being friendly with Gene after 10 years of listening to his show, participating in the forum and even being a guest on the show one time. I'm aware there are people who have a major problem with Gene Steinberg. I'm not one of them. I have been a listener to The Paracast since 2009. I have been vocal over the years in the forum with my criticisms of Gene and the show, and especially specific episodes, but it's never reached the level of "personally attacking Gene" for me. I've seen the complaints about incessant begging for money, claims of fraud, his attitude/antiquated opinions expressed on the show, etc. In the 10 years I've been listening and a forum member, I never received one single email asking me for money. How could that be? When I joined the Paracast forum I unchecked the box in Preferences section where it allows email messages from the site administrator. Never got one email from Gene as a result. I'm surprised more people didn't take that route, or figure out the solution. That and a judicious use of the "block user" feature, silencing several members that made the forum unpleasant, made my forum experience much more tolerable. As for being upset about various opinions the hosts express on the show, I take most of it with a grain of salt and genuinely try and focus on the topic being discussed and the guest being interviewed. If a particular show gets "too political," or the guest sucks, I simply delete the podcast episode from my iTunes library and move on to some other show. Tangent alert: Aaron Gulyas' The Saucer Life is very enjoyable, for those who haven't checked it out yet.
Clearly there are people who hold a variety of different feelings and opinions regarding The Paracast and Gene. That conversation really doesn't interest me. I'm here to read about and discuss UFOs, aliens, and strange phenomena. That's the fun stuff. I have no interest in tearing other people down, discussing their shortcomings, or speculating about their personal and financial lives.
Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about, so be kind. My current battle is the 110ºF heat in Los Angeles today and a woefully ancient and underperforming A/C unit in my apartment. Good times...
