Stick an orange in your steering wheel and have a snooze ?

Yup,, thats the only fruit that works. Bananas or apples wont create the correct pressure on the wheel to fool the sensors.

On big airliners , other fruits must be used. Depending on if its a yoke ( Boeing ) or joystick ( Airbus ).

Governor Ducey Tells Uber 'CA May Not Want You, But AZ Does'

" Arizona welcomes Uber self-driving cars with open arms and wide open roads. While California puts the brakes on innovation and change with more bureaucracy and more regulation, Arizona is paving the way for new technology and new businesses. In 2015, I signed an executive order supporting the testing and operation of self-driving cars in Arizona with an emphasis on innovation, economic growth, and most importantly, public safety. This is about economic development, but it’s also about changing the way we live and work. Arizona is proud to be open for business. California may not want you, but we do.”

100 percent safe is not possible for anything.... there will always be failures... mechanical, electrical, logical...

Heck, , even a glass bottle, in a padded wooden box, sitting on a shelf, is NOT 100 percent safe.

I do believe an autonomous transportation system could be safer than human drivers... it is possible.... but it would require allllll vehicles to be autonomous, and in sync, and at least linked enough so they could all function in an organized synchronistic way.

The biggest problem right now is autonomous humans.... nothing more unpredictable than that.
