why people give up on science

I remember when what science offered was pretty close to reality
take the weather as an example
the weather use to be trustworthy
it would tell how hot it was suppose to get
and that was about what it was...
now something has changed.
now it is a solid 10 degrees from what "they" say it will be to what my readings are,
others near me are about 3 degrees cooler than me,
but that is not near enough
I remember this month as having lots of 105F to 108F days as I still read on my hardware, the weather officials now reports them as much cooler
I do wonder if I got it wrong, yet my final check on the weather data is that I don't have my hot water heater turned on.
if it were really as cold as they say, it would be lots more painful to take showers.
and it is not like I am that dim, did every thermometer I own from more than 5 manufactures and of all types all have a "defect", some how years later and with an offset that is identical (also checked with the freezing and boiling point).

I have noticed many people that have noticed the gap of the official reality and what they see.
most have given up on things like logic from this insight.
so sad to see what lesson they decided to learn from this mess

the one thing I know for sure,
as a farmer if I trust the temp. or the rainfall from official sources, my crops would fail (I have tried this lately, yet it use to work very well)
there is a deep disconnect forming in science from reality
and my readings show it to approaching about 10F
not that you can put a degree of temperature to scientific fraud,
but that number sure hits me as a hard reality (not that it will not change soon, and that is why I keep my own weather data. and yes, it can be matched to others miles away)
reminds me of the idea of the dumsday clock...
we are now 10F from reality...

Meteorology is only a single branch of science. You say you use multiple thermometers, do you also use many forecasting services?

the forecasting services I can find out there are not accurate enough for farming use.
I know there are payed ones, but I can't afford that.
the forecasting idea that 75% of the time the weather will be just like the day before actually gets me better results than anything I have tried.
I do have to keep my own rainfall totals, official totals are only 1/3 to 1/4 of actual.

Perhaps the temperatures in your region vary considerably, and the weather data is being collected from a cooler region that gets more rainfall. These kinds of localized disparities in weather conditions are called microclimates. It seems that a lot of cities use data collected at the airports, for example, which are usually miles from the cities, and depending on the geography that can make a significant difference. It would be interesting to station a thermometer near their data collection point, to see if you still find that kind of discrepancy.

don't think it a microclimate issue,
I know people in some of the locations, they will report something like 2.5 inches of rain for a storm when the official reading is something like 0.01 inches
the official stations just have a few broken rain gauges, and when averaged, 2 out of 3 reading zero or almost zero, it really messes up the data.
and they have been broken for years now.
they could at least stop including the bad data if they can't afford to fix them.
but I wonder if they want them broken. if they read correct, they might not have got to pass the very restrictive water laws in CA

Re: weather prediction. My hobby is hunting and I have to plan for weather, mostly to avoid get wet in middle of nowhere. I use BBC's weather service and I find it extremelly accurate, up to 2 days ahead. One day ahead they are very accurate in telling one at what hour there will be a shower on any UK location.

Just my 2c.
