I'm a lurker to this, and a person with a longtime interest in the legitimate aspects of the field, however minute it is these days. I just wanted to comment on a few things, as I listened to The Paracast off and on for a while, but won't any longer. From reading the back and forth through the various blogs, forums, and social media there's a few things that need to be said. I don't want to see anyone go homeless or broke, but you have to own up to your own actions and make amends to decide to go forward. I'm sure he's lurking, so here is something better than a solicitation of money - advice to get out of this mess:

1 - First should be apologizing to others, to his two former co-hosts who left the show, and those who he's solicited donation or borrowed money from. Not to mention the history of court judgements in the double digits that he's apparently been connected to. Denial and externalizing everything on a million different things does nothing. TAKE OWNERSHIP OF THE SITUATION. Everyone has a bad beat, but for this to go on 12+ years now, it's time to look in the mirror and get a grip for your own salvation.

2 - There are people willing to help, but it's completely unreasonable to be completely non-transparent about your finances and also ask for money. I will tell you, if I am ever in the situation where I have to rely on the support of strangers, I'm keeping every receipt, I'm counting every penny, and watching every single thing I do and living on a skeleton budget.

I don't mind someone who is LEGITIMATELY trying their hardest to avoid costs and work their butt off. If someone said 'hey I'm in a bad spot, this is my revenue, these are my expenses, what do I do?' But how forthcoming has he been? How often has his weekly expenses been shown? His former co-host said he eats out every week, and previously leased a vehicle. I mean, seriously? How much is spent on food, vehicle, rent, etc every month? I read from a court posting that his eviction costs were four digits. Four digits for rent? How can someone POSSIBLY justify donations for someone this isn't willing to cut his own costs. Lets start with this:

phoenix apts/housing for rent "mesa" - craigslist

Craigslist search, apartments in Arizona, with a max rent of $700. If you have to cram into a studio or small 1br, then so be it. If you have to take the dog to the kennel or give him away, so be it. If you have to drive a clunker 90s vehicle, so be it. I used to drive a 91 Oldsmobile with a blown head gasket that damn near killed me to get by at one point. I used to donate plasma for $60 bucks a week. If you have to live on ramen noodles and spaghetti for a year, so be it. THESE are the steps you take to turn things around. Relentlessness and grinding. Not going eviction to eviction refusing to lower your standard of living off of the backs of others.

3 - Finally, it's 2018. It's completely unreasonable to expect with thousands of podcasts out there, to make any sort of living off of a podcast to a niche group of people. Honestly, Gene has been extremely fortunate to be able to start one years earlier before this became a boom industry and get anything out of it. Most people do this as a HOBBY and do it just as well as you do, and get paid nothing. Uber and Lyft are not meaningful jobs, they're also hobby positions for people to earn a little extra income. I do not know how podcasting and ride sharing is supposed to be considered a meaningful source of income.

If I were in that position, I would swallow my pride and do anything to get out of it. Start with this:

Supercenter 03833 - Hourly Positions

Right there is a Wal-Mart position near the area, become a greeter. Their minimum wage is at least $11 an hour, and near the West Coast I'm guessing maybe more. I see people upwards of their age in the 80s working locally. Even on a conservative 30 hour workweek at $11 an hour, that's $1320 a month - and almost all of that money would be exempt from any garnishments or taxes, and would qualify for an Earned Income Tax Credit at the end of the year, as well as be proof of revenue for food stamps. That's not even counting keeping the podcast going and revenue from that, and doing what you can with ride sharing at other times.

Start with that, email and call ten places from Craigslist with $700 and under rent, show me your grocery cost for the week, and a couple of applications to Wal-Mart, Target, or wherever and I will throw in my own money to help you out. You can't expect to rely on the generosity of others while not being willing to help yourself and be transparent about your costs.

What I've just explained is a completely and totally reasonable solution to your problem. I didn't say easy, but it's a solution, and you would probably garner more sympathy showing a willingness to be transparent, cut expenses, and go to a place of employment on a payroll for people to help you in the future.

Great post.

I agree with you that is a if not the path forward; I just can't imagine Gene and his wife taking it. Maybe they'll find they need to. The guy mentioned having access to online streaming services (a la Hulu or Netflix) not long ago, even while in the midst of frantically trying to raise money to secure and move into a new apartment. It made no sense. Hard for me to believe he will change his ways.

And yet I wish people who give him money would realize: you're not helping him. You may be enabling his bizarre lifestyle for a bit longer but, look, whatever funds he raised in March to stave off eviction, then get another apartment, then to move into a new place... well, here it is June and he is out on the street again. You're free to 'help' him if you want but, I submit that what he is doing with your help is not working and never has.

Why? Looking back at your posts and cross referencing with Paracast forums, it looks like an apology or censorship is demanded of you.

You know a good way to tell when someone is in the wrong? When they immediately pull the authoritarianism card. Censorship, what-about-ism, control. Vague blame on a band of haters or other group, instead of looking in the mirror and taking responsibility. It's all very Trump-istic, Stalin-istic. A 'just' personality does not have to resort to that.

I've looked back on this page and noticed a couple other of people who made reasonable posts who were deleted and banned. The former co-host was apparently banned. I'm sure there are others that didn't even bother to mention it, their last post was probably deleted and they were banned for speaking out. Just don't go back there, it's that simple. If you need UFO related forums, use this one, use Above Top Secret, and even the UFO subreddit has a ton of posts. You don't need to lower yourself to an unjust personality just to exist in a dying online community.
I agree with everything you said. I did not intend to delete my posts because of Gene's pressure. None of them were lies. Some of them were opinions and even conjecture, but not lies. I just was thinking out loud that at times I have posted something and wished to delete it for other reasons, e.g., I simply screwed up and created a new post by mistake.

I seldom posted on the Paracast forum so not going there is no sacrifice. I seldom go there now unless I want to read naive gullible young people, new to the field of ufology or the paranormal, who look upon Gene as a wise grandfather figure and lap after him like puppy dogs. Then there are the intensely cerebral people there who talk endlessly about consciousness without making even the slightest dent in actual consciousness.

OK. Here is an example. I wanted to edit my former message but did something wrong and now I have created a new post with the previous verbiage as a quote. Since I only wanted to edit the verbiage to clarify it, I would like the option to delete this message which was created in mistake. How about an option to be able to delete a message within the first 15 minutes? That way you could not go back and alter history but you could get rid of goof ups like I make where I press REPLY when I should have clicked on EDIT.

The Shadow, I'm still curious to hear your secret news.
The secret news is that Sheldon and Amy are getting married on the next season of THE BIG BANG THEORY. Gene is against this union, so The Shadow suspected this would be too much for Gene to deal with. (Being silly)

Wow I see Gene is still giving you a hard time on the thread at the Paracast. His control freak tendencies are out of hand. Ironically I listened to a bit of that post-Paracast Biedny interview the other day and Biedny does say something there about Gene being intolerant of dissenting opinions (and specifically in the context of the Paracast forum). Granted I realize Gene is interpreting something you said that was (he claims) not correct, or something you were mistaken about, as a lie, but even so.

Glad to see Gene has his priorities straight as always. Eviction is looming, and his wife is in surgery Tuesday. Got to make sure people aren't saying things he doesn't like in a forum completely unrelated to his own!

I am surprised that Gene's continual "Perils of Pauline" life hasn't invoked a lot of satire or parody, e.g., is it possible that Barbara is actually a blow-up doll whose only medical problem is when Gene is short of breath?

I truly think Gene's life would make a wonderful cartoon series like Dudley Dooright. Check next week as Gene is tied to a railroad track as a speeding train (of expenses) barrels down on him. Will Dudley Dooright (representing online contributions) save Gene in time?

The adaptation of the Dudley Doo Right cartoons for a 21st century revival starring Gene (as a maiden always being tied to the railroad tracks each month) would be so easy!

David Biedny was banned after he left, he stated that on the record. I don't know about O'Brien. It wouldn't surprise me if he was.
Why? Chris has not cut his ties with the Paracast officially. He is still described as "on assignment" by Gene. "On assignment" seems to mean not on the show this week but still tied to my apron strings. Where has Goggs MacKay been? His accent always tempted me to beat my head against the wall until I lost consciousness. This has nothing to do with Gene or any other higher rationale, but I just could not listen to the Paracast when Goggs was a co-host. My relatives are Scottish but their accents are pleasant. But Goggs just drives me up the wall. A couple hours of Gogg's accent and I want to go outside and chew gravel.

Because he posted this on the UFO Trail blog under a registered account:

"Whatever dude, I so tired of Gene, his pathetic begging and getting slimed while simply attempting to present quality guests and drill down to the essence of the subject matter covered on the show. I'm NOT shutting down conversations and can appreciate your POV concerning his panhandling. I'm absolutely feuds and through enabling his at best, questionable behavior. I'm as much a victim here as anyone. You can't put a price on 10 years of work the vast majority of it for free. I ain't the bad guy here and I resent your implication to the contrary. If you and others don't like what's been happening, get yourselves together and do a class action suit. If what you say is true, there should be no shortage of duped victims to gather together.

As to my own effort to place a triangulated monitoring system in the SLV and making a onetime request for help, there's a big difference to ask for help one-time for a legitimate scientific effort and a decade's-long program of panhandling and scamming. And he's not "running interference for me" as much as you'd like to think so. I AM speaking out against his scamming and I'm waiting for him to retire so that I can rebuild the show, if that's even possible. In the meantime, I will not appear on the Paracast as host. I'm done.."

Don't worry about it. The guy is full of shit. The funny part is that he can't be doing his cause any good by cranking about us to his marks. Even the dullest ones are bound to get a little bit curious and run across one of those long lists of "emergencies" that happen to him semi-weekly on average. I'm sure his take has fallen off recently. People who wonder what happened to O'Brien don't even have to put as much effort into finding his current comments as SG puts into a typical panhandling pitch. Takes about ten seconds. Then there is the newest eviction. How dumb do you have to be to keep pouring money down that rat hole? This can't go on forever.
