Double Nought Spy
Celestial
Well it has to be something. Until very recently, he apparently had an income of $2500 to $3000 per month (effectively tax free), and lives in an area that's pretty affordable compared to much of the rest of the country. He has made many very irrational decisions, like leasing fancy new cars. Leasing a car is essentially renting it, and it only makes sense if there is some financial incentive to do it, like a tax break or some accounting trick that allows for some saving elsewhere. Otherwise, it is just about the most expensive way to keep a car around. The only thing more expensive is short term rentals, and even that can be halfway reasonable if you work it right.
So anyway, a lot of us have been trying to figure out what Gene is wasting money on. Doesn't appear to be booze. Opiates, maybe. That's very common. The casino pictures got dug up and vanished expeditiously, which made me think he definitely had something to hide. Glenn Campbell lived near several casinos and took advantage of the cheap buffets regularly, but he was too smart to chuck at the slot machines or anything like that. He also worked the rental car to his advantage, routinely getting a clean new car to live in. It was a lot cheaper than owning a camper, if a hell of a lot less comfortable.
A year or two back, Gene was in a good situation. He was renting a place for some reasonable amount, still had a capable co-host to keep the show going, and his begging was only an annoyance in the UFO realm. If he had just cooled it and lived within his considerable means, he'd still have a successful show. Laying off the dictator role at the forum would have allowed it to keep going. Now it's all a train wreck, and the direct result of Gene's bizarre behavior. It's not too late for him to have a decent life, but he'd have to give up the bullshit and seek help. There is help out there for him and Barbara, but not until he drops the phony baloney.
