Looks like Gene may be lying. I'm shocked!
With the added details that except for the ride sharing gigs, Gene spent a lonely weekend at the motel - which is raising their rent by 10 percent.

It is a shame though that they did not get out of the motel. Thanksgiving meals were being served that he could have enjoyed as either a recipient or volunteer. There are lots of great places to take Teddy Bear for a walk, which I find can improve my outlook. And it appears Gene researched other motels but not alternative senior housing - the weekend is not the best time for the latter but as long as he was checking motels. . . .
The need is said to be urgent, but after a long weekend of ride sharing when people might have wanted transportation- particularly if they drank too much during the football games or needed to get to a Black Friday event - how urgent can things be? Does Barbara's share of social security come on Wednesday?
So today we learn that Gene was mistaken. The motels are increasing their prices 15-20%. Note to Gene: they might be raised again during spring training. I sometimes wonder what is keeping him in that area.

That being the case, why stay there? He's already living in a motel, which would be the same life just about anywhere he goes.
I am almost 100% convinced that Gene does not do any driving for Uber/Lyft (at least nothing regular and to the extent he suggests) which is why he will likely never accept offers such as those below (screenshots).
The driving gig storyline is a convenient excuse for him to keep a car which he doesn't need and also tell people that he is "doing his share" just as some of the commentators below show.
There is a miniscule, infinitesimal possibility that the the offer of hard cash will be too much for him and he will try to do some small random driving jobs just to show so he can try to claim the money - even though this will not be enough to offer proof of his claims.
Given his overall aversion to any kind of work, no matter how minimal, I find this unlikely because even trying to fake it in any halfway convincing manner will require a lot of effort and run a high probability of backfiring.
Gene is pretty stupid though so it is always possible he will try to do it just to get what he considers easy money from another sucker so it can't be completely ruled out.
Remember the McDonalds Dong chase fiasco - we are dealing with someone whose lust for money overrides even the limited intellectual ability he has available to him.

I would love to see some photos of this junk that Steinberg claims is so valuable to him and the missus. If Steinberg was so desperate for cash you would think he would have taken a nibble for the $1000 offer. It just goes to show that he is so full of BS. He is normally a whore when it comes to the possibility of a few dollars coming his way.
Didn't he describe it all both in his bankruptcy filing and in one of his TechNightOwl "the truth about Gene Steinberg and his life of luxury" FAQs? He made it sound pretty humble then, as I recall. A description is not a picture though, of course.
One hopes the value of this horde exceeds $463.
There’s a plan alright. Send out a few thousand more emails and tell more sob stories to raise money for the slot machines.Erickson! You've done your share! Good man. And yet, he wants more....
Does it ever really get that cold in Mesa, Arizona? I guess you might need a hoodie or something in December / January? Couldn't you buy a light jacket or the like for a lot less than $463?
I wonder what his long term plan is to not get into the hole with the storage place again, once he digs out of this $463. Surely he must have a viable plan - right?
Right?
...
If it's the same as in the bankruptcy it would amazing if it was worth $4. The bigger question is how a storage facility would keep his junk for him for free for so long. Fact is it would never happen.
