Looks like Gene may be lying. I'm shocked!

It might depend on where you are. Hotel rates in the Phoenix area are higher this time of the year. November and December are part of the high season there, where hotel rates go up. A 10% raise heading into the heart of the high season would not surprise me.

But Gene's credibility and his reputation speaks for itself. From My Life (down from 3.25 last August).

Stare..... They are always staring
With the added details that except for the ride sharing gigs, Gene spent a lonely weekend at the motel - which is raising their rent by 10 percent.

It is a shame though that they did not get out of the motel. Thanksgiving meals were being served that he could have enjoyed as either a recipient or volunteer. There are lots of great places to take Teddy Bear for a walk, which I find can improve my outlook. And it appears Gene researched other motels but not alternative senior housing - the weekend is not the best time for the latter but as long as he was checking motels. . . .

The need is said to be urgent, but after a long weekend of ride sharing when people might have wanted transportation- particularly if they drank too much during the football games or needed to get to a Black Friday event - how urgent can things be? Does Barbara's share of social security come on Wednesday?

Motel prices going up during a peak season?! What a novel concept! Looks like you might have to get in a few more late trips to the 7-11 for a munchie run.

So today we learn that Gene was mistaken. The motels are increasing their prices 15-20%. Note to Gene: they might be raised again during spring training. I sometimes wonder what is keeping him in that area.

Makes me even more suspicious about the whole motel thing. He found out yesterday the rates were going up 10%, and today it's 15-20%. My bullshit meter is pegged at 120% or so. Hard to tell for sure since it's off the scale.

Like other I do sometimes wonder what his other "pressing bills" might actually be. Car insurance I suppose, cell phone bill(s)... maybe they have some medical bills...? There's his storage bill of course. Car payments. And he owes the Desert Mirage. My sense is the Steinbergs put off paying any bills that do not absolutely have to be paid, and even then wait until they are overdue. Hmmm.

It costs money to move but, I agree with you I am not sure why he stays where he is, geographically. If there is anywhere more affordable with better social programs, or even where he could get cheaper housing it would not cost a fortune to air condition, it seems he should look into this. By his own words they have no friends or family to speak of in the area. Hard to tell what the deal is with the relationship to the sister-in-law but, he claimed she was relocating to move in with a friend to save money. I admit this is the kind of thing it's easier to tell someone else to do than do yourself but, I'd say Gene has made it seem like his present location puts him at a disadvantage in many ways. That being the case, why stay there? He's already living in a motel, which would be the same life just about anywhere he goes.

I think I know why.

As I've said many times before I think Gene is more comfortable in the current situation than any of the alternatives (which any normal rational person would consider to be better but let's remember this is not a normal, rational individual).

To him, being homeless and begging is a fair trade in exchange for him being able to buy whatever gadgets he pleases, have a nice car he doesn't need, eat out for every meal and doing whatever else he does to burn all his money (drugs, gambling, hookers).

It also means he doesn't have to work at all and can sit around doing his podcast hobby, discussing cars, supergirl, policing his forum etc online in between watching each and every new show on streaming media.

He also gets to continue is egocentric delusion that he is the centre of the universe and the most important person in history without anyone else being able to deflate it in any meaningful way (to him). Mr Slave (Randle) also does his part to help shield him from anything that might burst the bubble.

So in essence he is exactly where he wants to be - why would he change?

I am almost 100% convinced that Gene does not do any driving for Uber/Lyft (at least nothing regular and to the extent he suggests) which is why he will likely never accept offers such as those below (screenshots).

The driving gig storyline is a convenient excuse for him to keep a car which he doesn't need and also tell people that he is "doing his share" just as some of the commentators below show.

There is a miniscule, infinitesimal possibility that the the offer of hard cash will be too much for him and he will try to do some small random driving jobs just to show so he can try to claim the money - even though this will not be enough to offer proof of his claims.

Given his overall aversion to any kind of work, no matter how minimal, I find this unlikely because even trying to fake it in any halfway convincing manner will require a lot of effort and run a high probability of backfiring.

Gene is pretty stupid though so it is always possible he will try to do it just to get what he considers easy money from another sucker so it can't be completely ruled out.

Remember the McDonalds Dong chase fiasco - we are dealing with someone whose lust for money overrides even the limited intellectual ability he has available to him.

Yeah this one is interesting. Someone is offering him what he claims to want most of all, a ticket to a new apartment (assuming anyone will rent to him). A hitch is, let's face it, it's just an Anonymous commenter. They may not even have the money he'd need.

But as "the merry chase" showed, you'd think Gene would jump at this. I guess now all he could do would be comment on the thread there. Or he could post some sort of record of his driving for Uber / Lyft on one of his websites and tweet about it and... wait for the money to roll in? I've never driven for Uber or Lyft, not even sure what such records might look like, though I assume something like that is available through those services, if you are a driver. Hmmm.

So the storage theme returns with a dollar amount.

Erickson! You've done your share! Good man. And yet, he wants more....

Does it ever really get that cold in Mesa, Arizona? I guess you might need a hoodie or something in December / January? Couldn't you buy a light jacket or the like for a lot less than $463?

I wonder what his long term plan is to not get into the hole with the storage place again, once he digs out of this $463. Surely he must have a viable plan - right?

Right?

I would love to see some photos of this junk that Steinberg claims is so valuable to him and the missus. If Steinberg was so desperate for cash you would think he would have taken a nibble for the $1000 offer. It just goes to show that he is so full of BS. He is normally a whore when it comes to the possibility of a few dollars coming his way.

Didn't he describe it all both in his bankruptcy filing and in one of his TechNightOwl "the truth about Gene Steinberg and his life of luxury" FAQs? He made it sound pretty humble then, as I recall. A description is not a picture though, of course.

One hopes the value of this horde exceeds $463.

If it's the same as in the bankruptcy it would amazing if it was worth $4. The bigger question is how a storage facility would keep his junk for him for free for so long. Fact is it would never happen.

There’s a plan alright. Send out a few thousand more emails and tell more sob stories to raise money for the slot machines.

They're going to be so disappointed when they finally auction off his stuff.
