Deadly Wuhan Coronavirus

Never mind that all the blame in the world will not save a single life or create a job.
I would dispute this assertion. The 'blame game' can reveal people who are unfit to hold their positions, have them removed, and allow more competent people to take over. It is actually quite important to identify useless people while the crisis is ongoing, rather than waiting until afterwards.

While briefly on the subject of finger-pointing, there was a PC baby on Twitter crying that the thread title of this thread "Deadly Wuhan Coronavirus" was racist and said that I should change it...I attempted a slight tad of reasoning in my reply stating this thread began back in early January when the virus was concentrated in the city of Wuhan and I'm not in the habit of changing thread titles on a whim and I didn't see anything racist about it...He didn't like my reply and continued quibbling a bit more...

So I'll ask, does the thread title bother any of those here on the forum who participate in this thread, leave it or change it?...I'll leave out my thoughts about the matter for the moment, cause actually my last reply him says it clearly lol, but what say you?...

Still have good feeling that we will be seeing this out sooner than later.

I wish I had your foresight now...

The intentions here were innocent so any requests to alter the banner are unnecessary.

No, it is not racist. Is it racist against Germans to mention the Marburg virus? Is it racist against Americans to speak of norovirus (or Norwalk virus, after a town in Ohio)? Wuhan is in fact the location of the original outbreak, and is a place that comes to mind for almost everyone who has been reading the news since January upon hearing mention of either 'coronavirus', 'Covid-19', or 'SARS-Cov-2'.

There is a school of thought, which has influenced the WHO's naming of the virus as SARS-Cov-2 and the resultant disease as Covid-19, that it is 'stigmatizing' to refer to viruses by the origin of an outbreak, or even to the type of animal from which the disease jumped to humans, but this is only an opinion shared by a proportion of people and does not mean that it is a fact.

Irrational discrimination against Chinese people as a result of this pandemic within Asia, and of Asian people in the wider world, has been occurring in places even where the media are keen to avoid any association of the virus with China or the city of Wuhan, and where the head of state does not ceaselessly refer to it as the 'Chinese virus'. There is no evidence that this use of euphemistic names has made any difference, given that people--even stupid people--know where this virus came from.

PS if you do a search of the scientific literature from the January period, before the WHO officially named the virus and disease, then you find it frequently referred to as the 'Wuhan seafood market pneumonia virus'.

Indeed and well said, thank you for the much clearer explanation than what I provided, which are in tune with my inner thoughts of this matter...Least not we forget the name of the early 20th century pandemic, the Spanish flu...

Okay, So, Here is the thing, I am from the south. in the actual south, We pretend Racism is dead but we have the wisdom to know racism is just the opposite bitter end of a spectrum of cultural difference,

Not all race-related commentary comes from a place of evil. An example, What White man, has truly ever been offended by Cracker Jokes? The truth is, That's never happened ever. People aren't really as sensitive as Political culture suggests.
Just pointing that out, I think the reason racism becomes a political issue is everyone secretly likes to virtue signal.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not accusing anyone of virtue signaling, What I'm saying is, secretly, Everyone likes to be virtuous, The Idea of being Just and honorable, It's a goal people like to achieve.

This is the very reason Pc culture won't subside in hostile environments like Twitter. Because The Idea of being virtuous and standing up for the other man is empowering. IT gives people a clear path to a virtuous topic.

Though entirely unnecessary. The reason Is, Only fools become easily offended. I say this Full knowing that everyone, Even me, Especially myself. becomes offended at times, We are all Saints and sinners.

I say we stop calling it the Wuhan Virus, And Drop a steel Wok down a set of stairs and see what sticks. Huh? Huh?? lol, We should all lighten up. Somewhere, some Chinese man Would have laughed at that Joke, We all take ourselves too seriously :)

India bans all exports of hydroxychloroquine

India banned all exports of hydroxychloroquine, a malaria drug that President Donald Trump has touted as a “game changer” in the fight against Covid-19.

Exports of the drug and its formulations are prohibited “without any exceptions” and with immediate effect, India’s Directorate General of Foreign Trade said in an April 4 order on its website. The trade regulator had last month restricted overseas shipments of the drug, allowing only limited exceptions such as on humanitarian grounds and for meeting prior commitments.

At a press conference on Saturday, Trump said he spoke to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and appealed for the release of shipments U.S. has already ordered. India is giving his request “serious consideration,” he said.

There’s no conclusive scientific evidence that hydroxychloroquine can treat the infection from the novel pathogen.

The ban reflects India’s rising concern over the rapid spread of the coronavirus, with risks of community spread rising in the country of 1.3 billion people.

India has recorded 3,374 positive cases so far and has lost 77 lives, according to the federal health ministry. The country has struggled to keep people indoors during a three-week lockdown that started March 25, raising fears of accelerating spread.

My glass is half full most of the time, when it's not its usually not long before it is again lol...I used to have more faith in humanity than I do now, not saying that we are heading towards extinction or anything drastic either, but humanity does stupid things like we all have seen quite clearly during this pandemic and to this day people are still continuing to do stupid things that are risking a quick end to this pandemic...

Stupid is what stupid does and no one can do a thing about that. Natural selection, stay away from them.

I've moved up market in my shopping because of this fact.

That number jumped cause of the new testing thats been increased. Likely the total infections might be 20-30 times the official numbers since we dont have the capacity to test everyone. Also some carriers might not even have symptoms, which is a problem.

It seems realistically feasible to consider that we cannot really go by any of these charts or graphs or predictions simply because we don't know and won't know the true extent of our crisis until every person on earth is tested and quickly...Otherwise to only way to truly stop this virus dead in its tracks is to impose a full unconditional lock down of all people until testing and treatment clears them...

Don't get me wrong, I'm not promoting doom or gloom and not looking at it solely that way, but we really have to make some hard choices and fast if we ever hope to stop this thing and get back to a normal life similar to a pre-coronavirus life we once had with all its freedoms and liberties....

We can't,. We haven't seen accurate numbers from China on this for literal months now, there is no way, because of the Chinese Data on this, That we can really know the real impact of any of this. We have to grade on a curve because we do know for a fact that China is lying about their numbers.

Who knows, Our experts are already looking at the current numbers and talking about how this will not be as bad as we imagined here in Finland and maybe we should begin a hybrid strategy of slowly opening up places while increasing testing. Tough they can be wrong, they were wrong in january and february when they told us it isnt likely to concern our country. That was before there was a mass of carriers coming from Italy, that went straight to work the next week.

And though the virus has been detected in sewage, scientists are still investigating whether it remains infectious in fecal matter — and whether it survives treatment in a wastewater facility.
Coronavirus at beaches? Surfers, swimmers should stay away, scientist says
I live fairly close to a large sewage works. Thankfully I live to the west of it, and we have prevailing westerly winds. However, on some nights, when the wind is in the east, there is a foul smell that descends over the area where I live. It happened on a night the other week. I had heard of the survival of SARS-Cov-2 in human waste at that point, and was rather worried.

About eight years ago, the sewer on my street also clogged due to a 'fatberg', which caused an overflow after some rainfall, and the fire brigade and sewerage maintenance people had to come out and pump the sewers. They provided some sandbags to stop it from flowing through my front door. The overflow was so bad that my neighbour's property was flooded on the ground floor (they sit slightly lower than my house). I worry that something like that might happen again during this crisis. I can't imagine that the sewers are being as well maintained at the moment, or that the response will be so swift if it does happen.

Well, there's stupid deeds and then there's knuckle-dragging stupid, yeah I'd say natural selection will pull through lol...
