Someone on the Paracast forums linked me to some earlier discussion from when David left the Paracast that I wasn't aware of.
David discussed Gene's shenanigans on a podcast called Church of Mabus and Gene managed to harass them into removing the episode (not quite sure how).
I also find the involvement of Paul Kimball (whom I assumed to be a decent guy) to be quite interesting here.
Anyway I think it is useful recording these screenshotted posts here as I suspect Gene will eventually remove them from the Paracast forums (surprised he hasn't already).

It seems both Gene and Paul have a problem with someone sending people "unsolicited" messages warning them about Gene's scams but not with Gene's unsolicited messages begging for money.
Whilst I think the way the person responded to Gene with insults is rather childish I think it is interesting that Gene has responded to others in a very similar way for asking legitimate questions (he just used more mature language).

That really surprised me because I thought that Paul was a decent guy and known to be on the more skeptical side of the field (despite his own experiences)- and correct me if I'm wrong but isn't he a former lawyer too? You'd think he'd know better.

Oh, for the love of....Gene may have threatened the CoM guys with legal action again. If anyone knows them, please tell them that he doesn't have a pot to piss in, much less money enough to retain a real attorney, much less money enough to support a libel or slander suit...

Right. Even if he did I don't see why they would take down the show where a guest was expressing his own opinion and events that he saw himself. I suppose some people get really scared when someone just makes the threat of legal action. BTW those posts are from 2010.

Well it seems that Gene may have been gambling at a casino whilst gathering "emergency donations" and was stupid enough to post photos of it on FB but the evidence has now been removed - I really hope someone copied them:

Paul Kimball is a duplicitous asshole - the moment I was gone from the Paracast, he moved in to claim some of the territory. He's an opportunistic user of people, and as I understand it, he has also had a falling out with Steinberg recently. Big surprise, Kimball - like Gene - has left a wake of bodies, they ultimately poison anything they touch, they are both manipulative users.
The illiterate nimrods at the "Church of Mabus" were indeed open to me coming on their sad excuse for a show and venting some of my ire at the time, and at this point, their interview with me is one of the only things they're actually known for. They served a purpose for me at the time, and if you search out my name on Youtube, you'll find the interview. You can also hear my impatience with them during the interview - one of them keeps referring to NDAs as "disclosure" documents, he was simply not very bright. Neither of them was executive material, and since then, they've both faded into obscurity - no surprise there. The anomalous field has a way of attracting fringe characters, they figure they can 0ccupy some mindspace in a realm most populated by idiots.
What is truly fascinating the last few days, is that my memory of seeing pictures of Gene, Barbara, Helene and Grayson in some casino was indeed accurate, in fact, apparently Steinberg had some of those pictures up on his Facebook page, someone found them in the last 48 hours, and once Gene actually remembered they were up there, he removed them. So indeed, it would appear that a chronic gambling addiction plays into his perpetual poverty, and it totally makes sense - financial scams were the BIL's primary business, and that rot extended to other family members, including Gene. Gene hasn't worked an honest gig in a long, long time, he feels entitled to a certain lifestyle, and if hitting a jackpot in a casino isn't in his cards, well shit, it's not like he's actually going to get an honest job, he'd rather be a _shnoorer_, which has pretty much been has life path for the last few decades. He deserves to hit it big, don't you get it? Well, maybe not hit it big, but WORK? He's too old for that, and who's going to keep an eye on Barbara and make sure she doesn't burn the house down? There's television to watch, dammit.

One thing is certain. The poster ‘Anonymous’ over at UFO Trail has a major hard-on about Steinberg. Gene must have done something very personal to upset this guy.

The actual episode I listened to wasn't that bad (but I'm comparing with the general paranormal shows of the time). I only listened to find out why you left. Can't believe it was 8 years ago now.
It really does make sense if it is gambling because in that case no amount of money would ever be enough. It also makes it all the more disgusting that Gene is expecting others to fund this lifestyle for him and he seems to want enough so he can act like a high roller too.
It is just sick that he keeps doing it and people keep enabling him - like the latest sycophant he has taken on - USI Calgary (I think his real name is Randall Murphy).
The guy is well aware of Gene's actions and yet seems to think it is fine and entirely separate from the Paracast (despite the Paracast merely being a vehicle for Gene's begging now).
I suppose some people are happy to kill their own reputation for some minor fame and admin privileges.
Well those new episodes of Supergirl and CSI won't watch themselves.
Plus Gene has to sit online a lot to police the Parasite forum in the style of a tinpot dictator - God forbid someone might make a post asking about why he is begging from them and why he has been in perpetual crisis, about to be evicted, or out on the street for going on a decade.
Or indeed about his involvement in the various scam businesses his in laws created and which list him (by public record) as having prominent roles.
No he doesn't want people asking questions about that because it might further curtail his "business" (begging using his podcasts).

I'm not that optimistic as Gene is actively going round deleting evidence. It will require him to slip up and he seems to be someone who has a lot of time to waste going through online information. I suspect he has Google alerts to tell him every time he is mentioned.

It seems the gambling explanation makes the most sense, given what we know now. It fits his personality, I think. The money is going somewhere, and he's lying about it. That's certain. I'm sure old Beizer sucked a lot of people's savings up his nose, and probably shared, but I think gambling is more likely to be Dear Grifter's biggest problem. Booze? I think we'd have pretty good evidence of that by now. Booze isn't that expensive, either. Blow and casinos are both bottomless pits.

Gene having a chronic gambling problem would explain a lot, I think. And frankly if he is deleting photos of himself in casinos, I think that supports the notion. But nothing seems proven. Granted not much here can be proven. Gene going after jackpots just seems plausible, fits with everything else I know of the man.

All it takes is for one person to see Steinberg at the gambling tables and snap a photo of him. That pic won’t be under his control. Steinberg seems to be rather sloppy these days. Someone will catch him.

Exactly. It is almost impossible to cover up alcohol (or indeed most depressant drug use) for so long. Alcohol especially so because it is a literal cellular poison and a decade of heavy drinking for even the toughest healthiest person would result in a cirrhotic and failing liver (if not more serious neurological complications).
Gambling is easier to cover up and like you said also explains the money disappearing down a black hole.
