I think they know there is something there but do not know what it is or where it is from. They are in the same boat as us with it.

How can the UFO mystery be solved? It might be a good idea to write a list of options.
I can only think of a few right now.., but feel free to add any to the list.

    1) Government disclosure
    - Organise a petition and get people to sign.
This has been attempted in the past numerous times with no affect.
I don't think a short-term politician has power over the higher ranks of the military, the top brass have had life-long careers serving the nation. I believe the military does not show each and every President/Vice President/advisers through their classified areas, showing all their secrets.

Only to be kicked out of office 4 years later with all that knowledge.

The military is in the business of war and security.
They require the best technology to gain an edge of competitors. They will keep the top technology secret from everyone, to prevent countries like China from reverse engineering the tech, and forming ways around it.

Therefore I think this avenue is a dead end.

    2) Look at previous cases
    - Collate UFO cases. Check credibility. Look for alternative solutions. Make 2 piles (solved, unsolved)
I personally don't believe this will ever solve the UFO mystery or even prove an event took place.
But if it ever could solve the UFO mystery.., what would need to be accomplished?

How many credible recounts are required?

For the US government to come out and publicaly admit that people have been seeing something that to date is unidentifiable and unknown to that same government . That it is a real phenomena and they haven't got a clue what the modus operandi of the phenomena is nor where it comes from . But that would mean admitting they have been lying to everyone all along. They are not going to do that. And I am sure the public would not be impressed to learn that their own government and all its agencies knows about as much about it as they do.

You simply can't define all this. I am a believer and know that the topic goes beyond our physical existence, and is so much more than just some aliens flying around space. There is like a whole new reality, think beyond our physical existence, not earth, but the universe. Everything is linked together, we have no clue what so ever as to what is going on. Someone very knowledgeable on this topic once said to me "Our physical existence is the closest thing to 'hell'". We cannot answer this question, how we persevere the unknown as questions seeking for answers is too simple and wont help us at all. Seeking answers to solve our questions is not enough. We aren't ready to take this on, to take on the task of understanding this, we are so far beyond getting to that point yet. Our level of understanding things is too basic, think of us as a rock, us as in humans, and even if we were given all the information, the rock would have no way to read, hear or touch the information even if it could read, our languages aren't enough to comprehend the information given. The best we can do is try, try to develop, learn and grow, observe this topic piece by piece, as it is given to us, through time. The fact that many many of us still wont accept any evidence even if it is 100% proven to be true, for what ever reason, our society isn't ready.

Have a UFO land on the White House front lawn, and have Klaatu and Gort get out and say Hi.

I agree its seeming likely that this is the most logical reason for governments wanting to keep it a secret.
Especially in the 1940's, I think it would have been a huge shock to civilised nations like the US, Russia, Australia etc.., who were only just thinking about going to the moon.

Probably much worse for the rest of the world of non-scientific or religious people (which may have been the majority back then)

    What if...
    1) They were elusive
    2) We could not catch them
    3) We were unable to damage them

You are obviously not a mid-westerner.

It is just good manners to knock on the front door and say hi if you want to meet the new neighbors.

Bringing a fresh pie or casserole is also good.

Peeking at the new neighbors through the blinds and following them around or worse kidnapping them (what UFOs are claimed to do) is not good manners. If Aliens are stalkers and peeping toms I don't care to know them.

Too many people, particularly millenials, just have no clue what good manners looks like.

You should not assume that Aliens are uncultured savages.

    To address your points:
    1. If they knock on the front door - elusive isn't a problem.
    2. If they are at the front -catching them isn't a problem.
    3. If they are at the front door and saying hi - damaging them won't come up. That is only an issue if you are shooting trespassers at night.

Clearly getting whoever or whatever to front up and admit they are here and doing all this is not going to happen.

If they are just going to skulk around and dig through our garbage cans or whatever they are doing ...

    They just aren't nice people.

I'm sorry. I fail to see the context to the conversation.

    What if...
    1) They were elusive
    2) We could not catch them
    3) We were unable to damage them

I'm not sure I am assuming they are.
But it seems like you are assuming they must be civil.

    Then using this as logic to conclude;
    1) Because they are not civil (I.e. land on Whitehouse front lawn, say hi)
    2) It must not be aliens

    OR
Are you saying your answer is...
Just ignore them because they are not nice?

    EDIT: You edited your post...
I am just going to leave mine as is.
Next time I will wait until the editing time expires before replying.
I will respond here if I have enough time.

I still fail to see the relevance to this

No they are not nice people , auto stopping your car dead in the middle of a national park in the middle of the night then all you can hear is the crickets and then subjecting people with beeping noises and over head lights is not a thing nice people would do .

What they are doing is trespassing. You shoot trespassers.

This is why I recommend HVW strikes on UFOs. Modern HVW rounds can be optically guided so the radar thing isn't an issue.

By examining the wreckage and corpses we can figure out what they are.

If HVW strikes don't work, we should just improve our weaponry until something does.

If they behave like vandals or "punk" people for no reason, they are not nice people and it is time to get the police or military involved.

Having the Aliens spend a few nights in jail and assessing them a heavy fine should educate them to behave better in the future.

My feelings on the phenomena is that it is Supernatural and working outside of the norms that we adhere to. Its not what we think it is . Over the years it has changed from one thing to another as if to suit the timeline it co exist in with us. Its complicated and elusive I don't think we are ever going to figure it out. It doesn't have our good intentions at heart its a cold subliminal thing that is out to use and abuse. Its emotionless.

lol, We don't really have weapons in Australia hey.
Even then I probably wouldn't kill a trespasser.

    How about I add to the list;

    3) Wait for ET disclosure
    - Wait for them to communicate to us (I.e landing on Whitehouse lawn)

    4) Retrieve physical proof
    - Shoot at the UFOs
Use advanced weaponry to bring down alien craft.

Changing peoples attitudes would be a good start. There is still a stigma attached to believing in UFOs. I work with a deeply religious South African dude. Real decent bloke. But he feels incredible threatened by the the thought of Alien civilizations. It seems somehow connected to his religion. But I know if I mention at work anything about UFO's, within 5 mins someone will have a tinfoil hat on. People are too embarrassed to believe. Of just plain and simply don't believe. Then we have the people that would be frightened and panic. I think with all that, if any government did have knowledge about any ET, past or present. They are going to be reluctant to admit it. Then we have politics. Can you imagine the political shit storm if say the US was to contact and work with ET. The other superpowers would probably Nuke the US for fear of them getting a technological advantage. Just look at the different attitudes on this forum.
CB says shoot one down, I am spooked in case there not very friendly. Others think they would be friendly And from what I have been told there are religious folks who would be very upset by ET landing on someones lawn.

So unless they just appear one day and don't give anyone a choice. I can't see any disclosure by governments (assuming there is something to disclose) any time soon. At least not until there isa huge shift in peoples attitudes.

I am really glad you are not in a position of power CB, your penchant to shoot anything that moves is a hell of a worry. :)

I find shooting at anything that bothers you makes you feel better.

    We should shoot at UFOs.

They don't bother me (I've never seen one). Perhaps they know me and how I would react.

When plinking at targets you don't always hit them so it isn't a big issue if we don't hit them immediately.

I will grant you that their intentions are unknown and they might not be anchored in this dimension.

But it is better to light a candle than to curse the darkness, and if you light a candle and curse the darkness you have covered all of your bases.

I spent much of my teenage years in the orchard shooting everything that moved. Extensive experience has shown that shooting things that move stops them.

The only problem (well not the only problem) but one of the problems with that approach is your assuming that your shooing may have a warning effect. However if it is like an annoying mosquito bite it just may cause them to get out the bug spray, with us being the bugs.
